    Details, Details....
My 82' BBI has black, closed cell foam insulation in the two rear deck air boxes. The foam is smooth, with no texture (see 1st pic). I have seen Boxers one model year later with a brown textured, honeycomb finish foam (see 2nd pic).

Does anyone know if the smooth black foam is correct for an 82'?
    Thanks,
    Dave

I have a 1984 Boxer with the original smooth black foam. I have never seen a brown foam. My car has won 5 platinum awards and no judge has ever commented on the black foam as being incorrect

Agree with 5speed, they were always black, never seen brown.

Brown is not the color of the original foam insulation, What you call brown is the aging effect that heat on grey foam insulation has. I have had 3 boxers including an original 84 in 1986.and they all had the foam pictured in 2nd pic posted. The sponge that is in the first pic is not original. The problem with concours today is that the Judges are not specialists in each particular model...20 years has gone by and they just dont know better, so they make no deductions.BTW... 5 Speed welcome to the board.

Previously I have posted a request for finding this honeycomb foam. It went unanswered, I tried every F parts house out there...none to be had. currently I have removed the original foam as it was deteriorated, sanded the inner shell and resprayed it flat black... waiting to find original foam.
