Too weird. Right before I came to this site tonight, I begged for a copy from Hemmings. Hopeully my "sign up" issue is THIS one.
this is an ok magazine. i had subscribed to it since issue one hoping it will be a hemmings level mag...not yet the case but getting closer. they now have satch carleson on board...many of us loved satch from the GOOD autoweek days. anyway, i wish they called the boxer a 6 figure super car! the car featured looks like the one from mt. helix/la mesa area of san diego based on color and mirors. jtr...do you also recognize the car as the la mesa boxer?
Thats the Canapa car that sold recently for $175K, they put different mirrors on it. Hemmings should check their sales listing figures, 5 figures is right for lower end BBs only
Hey Newman. I grew up in TO. There's lots of nice stuff up your way. You just have to know where it's hidden.
Where exactly in TO were you from? Ive just never seen that magazine before, tell me where I can get it. I dont feel like subscribing to get one issue.
Paul, it's published by hemmings. maybe a nice e mail will get you a [email protected]. or 1 800 227 4373. It's actually not a bad read. I enjoy my subscription.. Mark
Keith, That's great! Do you know the person? Is he in the Ferrari Club? I would love to see the car sometime. Hopefully he will bring it out to some events. Gary
The 1980 BB512 on the cover and in the article of this issue of Sports & Exotic magazine, at least according to the article, is owned by Joe Ventura and Archie Kuehn of San Diego. The car is supposed to be the 1980 Frankfurt Motor Show show car. The mirrors are from a 1990 RX7 (?).
It didn't have those sidemarker lights at Frankfurt. Is the bottom half black or darker gray? It's like a mirror, you could probably use it to shave after a hard night if you were still crawling around... CH
as i mentioned, i know this car...i doubt seriously that this was the frankfurt car. it was purchased from an estate and painted and mechanically brought up to snuff. it is a single color and does need the mirors replaced imo. it is a nice enough car but it is shocking why it was used as the cover car when cars like michaels old car exist in captivity? the wheels shown in jtr's post were purchased from ga red cars and it has kuhmo tires on it. kuhmo tires...are you kidding me??? the original wheels were obviously used in favor for the cover photo. again, why that car and not another?

Close. They would be from a 3rd Gen. RX7, 1993-2003 or so. I've thought about exactly the same mirrors (without ever seeing this car previously) if I ever found the right car in need of a little "misguided TLC". It's easy to imagine for me, since I have a chassis sitting about 4 ft. from the Boxer. Funny how a Japanese company managed to update the classic PF/Ferrari forms of the 50's and 60's to design that car's exterior. Shame that it was for the surprise-grenade weedwacker rotary, since the chassis itself is fantastic. I sure didn't buy my first one, or this one, for that motor.
