As I move to my next little Boxer project, I've got some shocks 'clicking' like crickets playing castanets over small bumps. I recently restored the suspension on my Pantera (oh my gosh what a difference! The guy who did it is pure suspension genius: www.patsauto.com. Email or call him directly.) While getting that done, I bought a bushing kit from a direct importer who also has Boxer suspension components. First I need to know if I have 12mm or 14 mm inner diameter for the shock bushings. Anyone know? Also, if anyone who's rebuilt a Boxer suspension lately has any tips, sources or even pitfalls to avoid, I'd be greatly appreciative.
DOn't know which size the bushings are got mine from Trutlands, they need to be pressed in with a press, very tight in the new shocks eyelets plus the metal is thin at the shocks so you could crack them easily if brought in at an angle. You'll need a spring compressor of good quality to remove and replace the springs. Installation is straight forward, I did need to loosen the A Arms to swing them out of the way a bit and ease in installation and removal
Carobu in Costa Mesa had my Konis rebuilt to be adjustable, then added new springs to lower the car almost 2". I am very pleased with the ride, handling, and the appearance.
I'd love to see pictures of your car. I live in the next city over from Carabu and contimplated on lowering my boxer (for years).
