Quite a bit has been said about Boxers and their tires. What do Boxer owners use for tires these days, other than the old Michelins that came with their cars. Those tires are over twenty years old, and there must be some properly fitting tires than can be used that work much better than the original ones.

I tried a thread like that some time ago when I was looking for some modern Daytona tires, and got very little help. It seems people still look for the original tires...for whatever reason. Most car owners dont concourse their cars, so why worry about original tires...any more than those who worry about original batteries. If the car runs better with newer tires, or a newer battery, well then, let's go for it. (By the way, I am familiary with Coker tires etc...)

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It's not so much that anyone's THAT much of a stickler for "originality"......it's really down to the best of what's available for the wheels you're running. That pretty much sticks you with Coker, unless you can find some even harder-to-find (harder than the abysmal TRX, at least) BB 15" wheels or have some others on hand. If you've found a source for 17" that won't break the bank, the Boxer group would have already been all over it.

I agree that the hunt for good tires should be like getting a modern battery or higher tech brake pads; just good street sense if you don't plan on concours ribbons.

I've just hunted high and low for tires on my Pantera which has original 15s (8's front, 10's rear) and the pickings are slim, almost none.

Go to www.tirerack.com; www.onlinetires.com, and www.edgeracing.com and you'll see about all there is to see in modern rubber. I'm sure others will chime in with thier favorite sites too. Cool thing is, you just plug in the size of your desires (tires, that is!) and you get instant hits, specs, weight, diameter, you name it.

I've got the metric Michelins on my Boxer which were brand new when I got the car, and yes from Coker. And there many threads on this issue of course, worthy of search. Like me, you were probably wondering if there was any 'new' info out there. You may sneak up on some!

FWIW, Toyo V and H rated tires (Proxes and something else) in the size I needed for my Pantera (295/50x15 and 225/50x15) are running VERY LOW in stocks now. I scored two of the fronts, they didn't know if they'd get any more. It's always worth looking and poking around!

    Best wishes.

True, Modern tires for Boxers are a real PITA.
Trying to find ones of the correct diameter, seems the only thing available are tires with a speed rating and tread design more suited for a pick-up truck, or snow tires.
I, among others, have hunted high and low, and in the end, went with new 15" XWXs.

Jerry from Coker Tire posts on Fchat. He can add his $.02 here. His alias is mini_ferrari. He's been very responsive on Dino tire issues.

When you consider the poor handling of the top-heavy Boxer anyway, the TRX tires are just fine...

I also just bought a set of new XWXs for my Boxer from Jerry at Coker. I'm not that concerned about originality, but I couldn't find a V or higher speed rated tire which would fit the 15" rear wheels.
