My 83 BBi has the two pouches, one under the spare with the triangle, jack, mallet, plug wrench and a few other things i cant remember. The one in the rf corner ahead of the front wheel is also in a pouch rather than a mini brief case. Ive seen this brief case in the carb cars and in my owners manual the pic shows a soft pouch in the corner, however, I know of a BBi with the brief case. What is right? My slot for the tool pouch is the same as the BB and will accept the brief case perfectly. What is correct?

    Good question!
My 79 BB also has a soft pouch, and not the mini brief case, but I don't know which is correct.
    Bet someone here does though!

It is my understanding from the research I did when I bought my Boxer that the 365GT4/BB and BB512 both came with the briefcase type tool kit and the BB512i came with the plastic tool roll with a leather pouch that matched the car's interior color. But, there could be some late BB512s that got the plastic tool roll if Ferrari ran out of the briefcases on any given day of production. There is a picture of the type of tool kit your car came with in the owner's manual.

    The BBi had both.

I have learned from sources over the years that sometime late in 1982/early 1983 (remember there are no model years) Ferrari switched from the fender tool box to the fender pouch on Boxers. This has been on F Chat before and there will not be a clear answer as to with what Telaio did it change. There has even been F Chat discussion "is the pouch black of brown". I also heard a story that in 1984 the factory "found" some tool boxes and used them in production until they were used up, instead of the pouches. BTW, the change to the pouch was very likely a cost savings. The little tool box is fairly nice compared to the pouch.

So you may see 1981-1982 BBi's with pouches, but I don't know any judges who would deduct for this. What is clear: most BBi's have pouches; all others clearly have the box.

I'm looking for one, and I've been under the impression that the briefcase is correct for my 79 512BB.

Guess I need the case too.
My BB has a crema colored outer pouch with a black tool roll pouch inside.
So are the tools the same in both?
My wrenches are marked UTEMA/N 1000/ ITALY.
Screwdrivers are unmarked, with dark yellow handles, and the pliers are unmarked with red grips.
Filter wrench, etc are also unmarked.
I guess there must be a crema interior BBi out there someplace with My briefcase!
Dammit anyway, now my cars all screwed up! :)

That may be the case as Ferrari is known to use what it had on hand at any given time...when they build a car what a concours judge may do 20 years later was of no interest to Ferrari. However, the owners manual and parts book for the 365GT4/BB and BB512 clearly shows a briefcase type tool kit and the owners manual and parts book for a BB512i clearly shows a tool roll type tool kit; so, that is obviously what Ferrari designed to go in those models. What Gesepi or Tony put it the cars on any particular day is anyones guess!

Didn't FerrariUk Classic parts come across some of the boxes????

I recall them having them, both with the tools, and just 'empty"........?????
I joked with them about carrying a wine bottle in it, is that the one?

I'd check with them they have done a good job stocking to tool rolls for the older cars, kind of hit or miss but they have a lot of stuff!
