After waiting almost three months, I just found out that the Tubi for my Boxer has finally been finished and has left Italy.

Hopefully it will arrive within a few weeks and I'm going to attempt to install it myself. This puppy bolts up directly to the jet coated Euro headers, which are already in.

I'm looking forward to hearing that flat 12 with a proper exhaust!

Good news Gary, be sure and order the 2 big exhaust donuts and the 4 smaller ones as they are unavailable anywhere locally and typically they will be cracked and falling apart, the 4 smaller flat gaskets should be fine to resuse.

Plan on several hours to do this, you need to remove the top heat shield and possibly the rear bumper as it will make it much easier to remove and install, its not a hard job but time consuming as the factory exhaust is very heavy and takes some maneuvering to get out, I needed to remove my carb covers also which gave me better access to the top muffler but everything will come out the bottom of the car and go back in the same.

PS start that Boxer up without the exhaust if you want a real kick.I had my entire neighborhood over checking about my car mesmerized by the sound when I did mine.

Gary, congrats on your new Tubi.............should sound fantastic. You can probably take your time installing it. This weather doesn't look like its going to let up anytime soon :( Unless you like driving in flood waters!

The new system looks promising Gary. Eager to hear what it sounds like. Robert's TR is heaven if that is any indication of what you are looking forward to.

    Hi Todd,
Usually dyno day is for early spring. The holidays keep everybody pretty busy during the fall.

I am trying to put together a drive on some new roads around my neck of the woods here in Arlington with lunch to follow at the Eagle Crest Restaurant in town. Just waiting for the weather to cooperate.

I really don't see a problem with you joining us. It is a non-official event and the prime objective is to have a fun enjoyable drive. I will post a new thread when the opportunity arises.

In the mean time lets hope Gary can get his Boxer on the road by then so we can listen to that flat 12 howl!

Arlington is about 50 minutes NORTH of Seattle. Figure about one hour south of the border for you. Right off I-5.

A giant box arrived yesterday, I opened it up and...... OH NO! :(

    They sent the wrong Tubi!

I ordered the 4-inlet per side muffler, NOT a two-inlet per side one. I do not want to cap off the 4- smaller header outlets to be able to use this muffler.

I just hope it isn't going to take another three months to get the correct one.

    The saga continues.....

Tubi now says they are no longer making the 4-inlet per side Boxer muffler, even though it is listed in their 2004 catalog/pricer.

They should have called and explained that when they took this order last July and built the other unit, without asking if that was okay to do.

I'm livid.... They are sending a shipping call tag and refunding my money.

Guess I will now be looking at getting a Larini or a Stainless Exhaust Specialist brand system. They still make 4-inlet units.

I would just have a custom system made by a race or muffler shop with a mandrel bender. It will be cheaper and likely sound better. I heard a BB512i a few weeks back that had a custom system made using Cherry Bomb glass packs. It sounded better than Boxers with Tubis I have heard and cost the owner less that $250 to have made. Since you will loose the same amount of points at a concours regardless of the brand aftermarket exhaust you use, why pay the rip-off prices charged by Tubi and other companies that prey on the stupidity of Ferrari owners. When the Ansa sports exhaust on my Boxer goes bad, custom made exhaust here I come!

Sorry to hear about the mixup with Tubi, I would be upset too. However, can you explain to me as to how are the two configurations differ, from both performance and sound POV? And what was the reason for them to discontinue one and not the other?

I hate mail order for that reason. A total pain to ship and re-ship.

I've heard Larini makes a pretty good set-up.

    Good luck,

    Anthony,

Tubi is claiming (of course) that the 2-inlet per side system performs/sounds just as good as the 4-inlet per side version, because it's so free flowing.

I would imagine that the 4-inlet system is a heck of a lot more work for them to make and very few orders, so that's probably why they have dropped it.

For appearance and possible performance differences, I do NOT want to use the "metal cap off plates" that came with this Tubi to seal off the 4- smaller header outlets.

The header outlets hang down and are visible from the rear of the car. The caps would show up like sore thumbs.

I'm probably going to buy a Larini System from England. They actually look nicer than the Tubi, because they polish -ALL- of the eight inlet pipes, tips, canisters, etc.. Where as, Tubi only polishes the tips and canisters on that particular unit.

A polished "bundle of snakes" should look very nice in back.

Gary, Don't all Boxers have the 8 outlets?

Thats pure BS concerning what tubi pulled, especially for what they charge for one, the stock system is free flowing also and capping off the smaller pipes is wrong.

If that Larini system doesn't work I'll weld up a set of polished 'Cherry Bombs' for you, ay?:p:p:p:p

Coming out for the drive this weekend? Maybe it will get your mind off of those TUBI guys for a while.
