I have a drivers side tail light not working on my '84 512BBi: the light assembly is fine, the fuse assembly is fine, so something in the wire between.

I have also noticed since I've owned the car both ign. lights comming on dimly when the brake lights are on; again this could be these wires. Perhaps there is a connector in the loom making bad contact?

Anyone know the route the wiring loom takes from the front to the back of the car? I have a feeling it might be through the LHS sill, is this accessible?

    Thanks for your help.

this would be a ground failure. so look if you have right ground ( minus ) all over.

Found the cause of the electrical issues on the car yesterday. Checking all the connections out with a meter (both impedance and voltage) showed very odd readings, with inconsistent voltages on all wires etc.

I removed all the plastic & rubber conduit from the clamshell wiring forward to the bulhead and found a big mess: cracked insulation, broken wires, and 'fungus' like I've never seen before.

Heat from the engine and exhaust had made the insulation brittle over the years (1984 / 24K). When the car is washed or in the rain the water gets into the joints between various wiring conduits and sits around the wires; when I stripped all the wires out they were very cold and damp, but the amazing thing was the fungus, which was like mutated plastic sheathing; hard and inpenatrable: I think a combination of the heat, damp, Ferrari insulation and wiring and a little electrical current had mutated the primordial constituants into theis mess.

The copper wiring had also oxidised to the point of becoming mechanically weak and non conductive over a large percentage of its CSA. All the spade terminals within the connectors were also oxidised and unusable.

I have stripped out all the wiring and replaced it with new; spliced, stagered mechanical joints, soldered and hermetically sealed with adhesive lined heat shrink. Cleaned out all the conduits and sealed them with slef amalgamating tape. Replaced all the connector terminals with new.

The rear lights are now perfect, and the wiring looks totally as orriginal.

I wonder how many other cars have similar issues waiting to evolve?
