    how difficult is it to clean modular wheels like that? seems like there's a lot of nooks and crannies for dirt to hide in...

    It's very time consuming. Multiple brushes are used to reach all areas.

    I found a nice brush to do this. It is called E-Z Detail brush. They come in 2 sizes. Its bendable and makes things so much better and quicker. You can find them at motorcycle accessory stores, etc or try DetailedImage.com (not affiliated) or e-bay.

    Another thing I found that works well too is Griot's wheel cleaner spray, really loosens up the dirt before you use water.
