355 Bradan F355 major service

Thanks, I thought it could be due to the old reservoir being made of some sort of cheese like many of the brittle plastic parts installed in the furnace known as a 355 engine bay.

The manufacturer doesn't care if the dealer charges the customer flat rate or straight time. But they ONLY pay the dealer in flat rate for warranty and recall repairs. I worked for dealers for 12 years and can tell you that the flat rate system is set up so that the dealer never loses, and is sales oriented which makes the tech look for customer-pay work to upsell. Bottom line is that the tech will always be in a hurry and we all know that more mistakes and shoddy work are the result. If you can find a dealer the pays their techs straight time (and they are rare) that is where I would take my car. I used to have many corvette customers that used to pay me to work on their cars at my garage even for warranty repairs, because they didn't want the work to be rushed in the flat rate shop. And I didn't blame them.
I cannot imagine a brand like Ferrari using flat rate to pay the techs to work on cars that retail for 4 to 500K.

 

Argh BOB SAGET another thing to worry about.

Is the only fix for the steering reservoir, is to replace it? And why would we even be seeing these on cars? I thought it was known to be done by anyone who serviced 355’s?

Seems weird to have had other prior services and still on there at this one

Not sure what you guys do but everythime i take an engine out I run a tap through the 6 bolts on each side at the bottom of the subframe.
Seems to help the install bolts line up

What I have done is the same finger in the ones that go and then adjust with a jack and bar until others finger in.
I am always very paranoid about stripping this set up. I think it would be tough to fix properly so never ever want to go down that path.
