We actually were able to cut the crank and run a 20 thousands over bearing. It's being polish now after X-ray testing.
I've had success rebuilding some really damaged engines in the past including a few 996 turbo motors recently. We looked into a new motor and a rebuild was 6-7k less so we figured it would be a good idea to explore it. So far everything has been x-ray tested for cracks and is being machined now.
