I have one and have used in on many other cars before using on my 308gtbi. It worked great on all of them. Two minor items:

1.) When you first hook it up, pump up the pressure and then wait to see if it holds pressure. If it doesn't hold, tighten the cap down a little more or find the source of the leak. You don't want to keep pumping on the thing while bleeding. Its too much work.

2.) Don't let it run out of brake fluid. It will put air in the lines and then you'll have to do it over.

Works fine. Last time I did this, I went through 2 liter containers of Castrol LMA working out all the tiny bubbles in the brake lines. TOOK FOREVER getting that crap out until I finally had a super solid pedal feel

The Motive works very well, you should be fine. Don't pump it up too much however, you only need a few strokes on the handle (assuming you have a good seal at the master) - you don't want to put too much pressure in there and then have a hose or cap pop off and spray brake fluid everywhere.

If you've still got soft brakes after cycling through all four corners then try a) having a helper slowly stroke the pedal a couple times while you're working each corner, or b) use a vacuum bleeder as well. The 308 brake system is notoriously difficult to bleed so be patient and be ready to run a lot of new fluid through the system.

    Good luck!

One safety precaution, I put a heavy rag over the motive unit as I pump it, just in case there is a leak, brake fluid will ruin the paint. It's never happened but it's just a good precaution.
Don't over pressure the unit , follow the instructions. Start with the brake farthest from the master cylinder and work forward.
The motive unit works great !

On the 308/328 you need to be very careful not to spill brake fluid around the master cylinder. That includes a leak at the adaptor for the pressure bleeder. It will run down the brake pipes and find its way to a rubber grommet around a wiring harness branch that enters the cockpit above the forward end of the console. The leather dye will not survive an encounter with brake fluid.

Is there any special bleeding for the abs system, or is the motive bleeder ok for this as well?

I use the motive, only pressurize it to around 5 lbs, then go in and pump the brakes (using only 1/4 or so of the pedal travel) to help it along.

Goes a little quicker, seems to work better, and avoids putting high pressure anywhere in the system, but is still a one man operation.

I have a Phoenix bleeder which claims to be the 2nd most popular. Works great with no assistance needed. Main element is the squeeze handle pump working in pressure OR vacuum mode.

You fellows are operating in the pressure mode which was too messy for me and needed an assistant. I find applying vacuum at each brake cylinder works best. Just suck the air out of the line, replenishing the fluid at the master cylinder when needed. Air bubbles don't have to be at the end, air bubbles seems to work their way through the fluid to the site of low pressure.

I have the vacuum style brake bleeder. How do y'all keep the air bubbles from getting sucked through the nipple threads? I like the tube full of fluid with no air that tells me the lines are bled that I get from pushing fluid through. When sucking I get tiny bubbles. I've greased the threads to stop them and it mostly works, but perhaps there is a better way?

I've replaced all of my bleeder nipples on all of my cars with "speed bleeders" which I find easy to bleed all wheels myself. Crack each one open a 1/4 turn (1 at a time) and pump the peddle 3 or 4 times and you're done. I think they were a super idea. It works for me.

The Speed Bleeders look like an interesting idea. Does anybody happen to know what size would work on an early (1977) 308? Here's a link to the site:

Not to mention that it's very easy to literally blow up the plastic resovoir. I try to keep it at 5 lbs. Never over 10

The Brake Bleeder worked Great!, Flushed the whole Brake system.Took less than a hour. Now New PROBLEM! Passenger front Caliper Inner Piston sticking,Looking for a rebuild kit that does not cost an arm and a leg.Did some Detective work found out Porche 911 1982 3.0 Litre Non Turbo uses the same Calipers as the 308.T-Rutlands wants $75.00 for one Caliper rebuild Kit,one dust sheild and one O-ring.Am I wrong but that just seems way too mush to spend. So the Car sits awhile while I locate a Cliper Kit for the Porche,Oh and yes the Manager at my local Napa was kind enough to check all the specs.Hoping to have her on the road by the end of the Month.Harry

This is from my old post.

OK folks just a little info if you want it. I just installed speedbleeders on my 77 308 GTB and it took 2 hours green to green to do the job. I would assume that all 308's with ATE calipers use the same speedbleeders if you want to buy them. So the part number for the FRONTs is SB8125LL (8mm x 1.25 ) and the part number for the REARs is SB7100 (7mm x 1.0) . This was a simple job and they work good in flushing the system by your self. Just thought you would like to know. Their web site is www.speedbleeder.com or you can get them on 815 736-6296 Enjoy the ride

Hey guys, thanks for the head's up on Speed Bleeders. I had not heard of those before. Just ordered a set as I am about to do wheel bearings, seals, pads etc on my 84 QV. These will be very handy.
