After using the car (91 TR) on the weekend, I noted that there is some servo effect on the brakes.

New fluid, master cylinder, pads, braided brake lines. Callipers all freshly rebuilt. A knowledgeable friend drove the car and suggested that the seals in the brake booster may be on the way out after 32 years.

Can anyone rebuild a TR brake booster?

I also note the idle can hang up some times. Can that be from a vacuum leak at the brake booster (or vacuum hose / check valve)? Can that also cause servo effect?

The vacuum pump works, but I fail to see how a leak in the vacuum system can introduce unmetered air into the engine which raises the idle.

yes, in switzerland the company DERENDINGER. main office in zuerich. but all the old guys there already retired and the new ones not know so much anymore. big problem ! ! !

    yes

what you mean under: hang up? too low? or too high? or instable?

    again : yes

when there is a leak in the booster the engine gets wrong air from this booster and wrong air then means bad idle

try to close the vacuum hose form the manifold to the booster and see what the idle will do. then there is no wrong air anymore. except one of the small vacuum hoses are not ok anymore???

    good luck with hunting/searching :)

Idle is normal, but every once in while, the revs climb by 200 rpm and then eventually drop again. I have looked through the vacuum hoses, etc. Must be a leak somewhere.

I’d clean off the throttle linkages. Adjust them too. I’d highly suggest going through the whole setting the idle process in the manual. You need a way to get a good tach reading since the tachometer is not really exact. At least in my case. Also you have to balance the banks using the manometer shown in the manual. It works so good. I chased weird idle issues for years until I actually used the correct tools. Took 20 minutes once I had the right tools. And the car runs sooooo much better now.

Will check that (again). Vacuum gauges seem perfectly matched. What tool did you use in place of the tachometer?

Given my brake feel, I still think the brake booster needs some attention. I will also check the vacuum hoses and fittings. Maybe there is a leak which shows up sometimes when hot.
