Hello my fellow Brotherhood members, I have a question for you. Would it be a big mistake to powder coat my brake calipers on my '91 348 TS in red? The car is black with tan interior. The calipers just look so boring. I saw a pic of a black/tan 612 with red calipers and they looked great. Taking the calipers apart to have the parts coated is no problem for me. I have been a mechanic all of my life. I just didn't know if this is considered a bad thing in the Brotherhood. If it is not a problem to do, does anyone know the correct Ferrari color of red that is used on other F-cars with red calipers? Thanks for the input. Todd

If you want to powder coat your calipers red Todd.............then by all means do it my friend. :):)

It doesnt matter what anyone here thinks, as long as your happy with the end result. :):)

And personally, I reckon red calipers on a black 348 would look SWEET! ;);)

Thanks for your opinion PAP. It is not that I am that worried about what other people think. It is more about me not wanting to do something to my Ferrari that will end up being something I regret later. I have not seen red calipers on a 348 yet and was wondering if there maybe was a reason for that or maybe I just have not come across them yet. Thanks

I think -- just my opinion -- that painted calipers on the 348 will draw attention to their relatively small size compared to a modern Ferrari.

Im sure red caliper 348's are out there Todd. Im sure I have seen them here before. ;);)

You probably havent seen them yet. :D:D

Also, you can always take the calipers 'back to factory' colour if you like. Its reversible. :):)

Well, I have decided to do it. Now I just need to choose the proper color of red for them. I think that the calipers are large enough to look good in red even though they are not as large as newer calipers. Like PAP said, I can always go back to the original color if needed. It will probably take me a couple of weeks to complete this project. I will take pics of the process. Thanks

I have a black 348 tb with tan interior. i plan to powder coat my calipers yellow. The yellow on black will make your calipers stand out.

Mine on the 355 are red from the factory, not sure how much bigger the stock brake system on the 355 is though.... I think it will look really nice....

YES!!!! That is what I am talking about! What color red did you go with?

I will definitely get the rotors done as well. Nice look! I am going a brake job at the same time and will also have them turned.

I honestly forgot, I did that several years ago. Go to his website and call him. Glen is the owner and is very nice. He can help you. Good Luck.

Hey Todd it's your car do to it what you like and makes you happy :)

My 2 cents, I have seen black 348 with red calipers and ones with yellow calipers and on black with the scuderia shields yellow looks stunning by far. On a red car red is the way to go but black accent your Shields.

Crap, now you have me thinking! I have a decision to make. You make a good point about the shields. This is the reason I made this post. Sometimes, other people can share their experiences that give you ideas that you have not thought about yet. I will let everyone know what I decide to do. I will not be able to start on this project until this weekend. I am showing my car this Friday to a fellow F-Chatter to hopefully pursuade his wife to get on board with him buying his F-car. :) I will be doing a brake job while I do this project so I will cover that as well.

I have a spare set of calipers(black) off my 92 348 that I'd be willing to sell. PM me if you're interested. This way you could always have the stock colour available if you decided you wanted to switch back at a later date....just a thought.:)

Thanks for the offer! I think that I will be alright. If I decide that I do not like them with color, I will do them in black. ;)

Yes, I agree. I had already decided that I was going to go with powder coating anyway. I use a powder coating shop already for the products of my business so I am familiar with the process. I make pedals that are used for sim racing. I have many Nascar, Indycar, ALMS and F1 guys using my pedals for training purposes. Here are some pics of my GT and F1 style pedals done in red and black. The pedal shafts are done on chrome powder coat. ;)
