Is there any "upgrade" brake discs avalible for the 348, im thinking both performance and looks. I would like some slotted rotors. Also which brake pads is recomende for trackday use, avalible for the 348? Post pics of any brake uprade you have made please...
Bushwhacker installed this monster cross drilled 14" brake kit on his 348. When he chimes in, he can tell you more about the kit, how much it cost and where you can get it from Lars. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm going to put 355mm 6 pot "AP racing" discs on mine early next year. They are less than £2,000 here in the UK.
A friend put them on his 355. He also had 19" wheels, but they should fit 18". According to him, they are incredible. Andyhls has AP's as well. Pic below by Metroman. http://www.apracing.com/roadcar/brakekit/index.htm Image Unavailable, Please Login
Lars, I bought the 2-piece Girodiscs for roughly $900 US. They are supposedly 4-5lbs lighter than the stockers. I am waiting on pads right now. I will weigh the old and new and post the differences. The stock brakes are very good, I just didn't see any reason other than BLING to go to the larger brakes. You can also run 17inch wheels and tires (aftermarket) that will dramatically increase acceleration by lowereing weight. Scott
Do tell more.. So the new rotors are the same size as the old ones? Keeping the stock calipers? Do you have any pics?
I am still pondering those girodiscs. They look top notch IMO. Though I guess 2 PC rears are not available because of the 'drum' parking brake we have... . I think girodisc has made a 360 style parking brake so that one can go 2 PC in the rear as well. Yes! They use stock calipers and they look awesome!! Here is a pic from girodisc: Image Unavailable, Please Login
I can confirm that they look just like Goth's picture!! ;o) He can make a two piece rear rotor, and shave weight. However, because of the parking brake situation it will NOT match the looks. To SOME, that would deter them from purchasing. I assured him that OTHERS like ME would rather have the performance increase be damned the "matching" look and retain a parking brake. If he chooses to make them I will surely buy them, Scott P.S. Lars, the stock 348 wheels are VERY heavy. Aftermarket wheels in 17's can be had around 15lbs each and less! Decrease rotating mass and increase acceleration. Examples off the top of my head are Enkei RPF1, and Volk TE37.
Thanks I noticed that when i had my wheels re installed last week. I really want some speedline wheels, but those are hard to find...
They are still a little heavier, I think 18lbs. Weigh a little more than the two I mentioned. I agree that they look nice. You can get them, I have seen new ones in white on e-bay. The are the Corse model. Anyway, definately not cheap, Scott
Excellent choice! I really enjoy my AP's, and the only other thing i'd consider using would be a nice Brembo upgrade. Otherwise, 2 piece slotted Girodisc rotors would be a nice improvement and lighter than stock. I don't understand why people use Stoptech's on these cars. But to each their own.
O.K., seems to be a lot of opinions here, some driven by knowledge, some by commerce and special interests, some by experience but none the less opionions. All are good as thats what a public forum is for but just remember do your homework and comparisons from different sources before making your purchasing decision. The real question is how are you going to use your brakes? Are you going to drive your car on the street only,or are you going to track it at local club events or are you full tilt with a racing application or a little of all? All applications are relative to the "HOW" question. I've had Brembos on a couple of race cars and loved them but only after a couple hot laps and heating them them up, with the same pads on the street they sucked and you could find yourself in back of someone's Camry, not to say thats not true with with any other manufactures since it's the right combination of brake package and pads that make the difference on any application. Standard vs. slotted vs.cross drilled rotors?, again , what are you trying to accomplish and how are you going to use them? Do you really need 4 piston calipers? Are you getting your cross drilled rotors just for bling? Are you going to change your pads when and if you track the car? Totally up to you. All I can say about my decision to go with 'Stop -Tech" for my street Ferrari is this, It's a lot of bang for the buck. They are amazing on the street ( never plan to track the car) and even when cold there are no surprises. I have had them in the twistys and very hot and never experienced any fade. They come with an e-brake application. They fit and don't take a lot retrofitting as do some other manufacturers. They look great as well, if the bling factor is a part of the equation. Are you going to ever use your brake package to the full extent of your personal capabilities? A lot of qualifiers and choices to consider when making your decision as to manufacturers and applications. Remember perceptions can be different than reality as we all know, especially when it comes to marketing. One reality that always rings true in the racing world is "When the green flag drops, the bullsh!t stops". Bottom line, what's the application that suits YOUR needs as well as your budget.? It's all relative.
I think your brakes are awesome!! If they make AXXIS pads for your setup, that is the route I would go.................... IMO
Oz, didn't we all have this discussion in another thread a month or so ago? Any relative info for Lars there?
You have a point for sure.. I dont really drive my ar that much, mostly to shows, meets and some spirited "crusing", other than that its just Trackdays. But still I cant go with race pads.. As for the slotted discs, I had good experince with them as an upgrade on my vette AND I like the looks. At the track last Friday, I had a serius vapor-lock, pedal all the way to the floor experince..(bad brake fluid), so I want to maintain upgrade slightly to make sure it sont run into this again... The longterm plans for the car is.. Castrol SRF brake fluid (need new obviously...) DONE semi "race" brake pads (want to keep braking power at cruise) Upgraded discs (not sure here...) Brake cooling ducts (I like not to worry about my brakes overheating...) Racing harness. (both for safty, and to keep me in the seat around the track...) Racing bucket seat 18" rims with R-tires (trackday wheel set) Rear wing ( heard good things, want to try it out when i get the chance..)
Sorry bushman.... I have run out of things to say and forgot what we covered last month........................................ I am just post wh*ring now ..... BTW do they make AXXIS pads for your setup??
