I recently discovered a leak near the front right side of the vehicle, LHD ‘98 F355 manual transmission. I originally thought it might be a leak from the steering rack boot, although it was not power steering fluid, but a light weight brown colored oil. It turned out to be power steering fluid mixed with dirt from traveling from the booster area.

After inspection, I haven’t had any “Oh, that’s where the leak is coming from” moments. Both the clutch and brake master cylinders are dry and all lines are dry. The reservoir level is between min and max, down from where it was after the last fluid flush in June of last year.

The leak is possibly coming from the back side of the booster, although hard to tell, but a small amount of fluid has been discovered in the cabin around the box inspection plate.

Advice would be much appreciated. o_O

It's possible that the steering rack could be leaking from where the lines connect to the rack assuming that the PS oil in your car is brown and not red. Have you removed the under tray and inspected?

You have to remove the undertray and do more inspection. Coolant, PS, brake and AC fluids all go through that area.

Yes, initially I removed the front undertray for inspection when the leak was first noticed. The power steering fluid is Dex/Merc, red and full. At first I thought it might be coming from the right steering rack boot, as my mechanic informed me that the manufacturer had a light oil in the boot. Although last weekend I removed the top trunk carpet and found the leak traveling all along the upper "shelf" under the air conditioning coil fan box from the brake area, down the wall near the rear side of the steering rack boot, then on to the floor.

It appears it could be from the rear of the booster, although I'm wondering what that might indicate. Master cylinder seal connecting to the booster?, hole in the booster diaphragm too? There are no signs of fluid around the reservoir or the lines. Ugg... Just hoping for some thoughts from experience with a leak such as this.
:( Reading my initial post, I misspoke when I wrote It turned out to be power steering fluid mixed with dirt, meant to say It turned out to be brake fluid mixed with dirt. I'm dumb as the day is long......:(

If you are sure that it is from the back of the booster, then the main seal in your master cylinder is leaking. Remove it, inspect it, replace it. At least you can still get a master cylinder for that design. The earlier Ate design is NLA.

Yes, this is most likely the correct assessment. Also remember that brake fluid softens and eats the paint off anything it gets into contact with so clean it off everything that it has leaked onto and get that leak repaired as soon as possible to avoid unwanted paint damage.

With a conventional vacuum power brake system if the rear seal of the master cylinder goes bad the fluid ends up in the booster. remove the vacuum fitting and see if it has fluid inside by using a flexible dipstick. Like a pipe cleaner or similar.

An update on this and for those searching threads in the future; further inspection revealed that the fluid leak, although it is brake fluid, was a leak from the rear of the clutch master cylinder inside the cabin located in the pedal box, as it shares the same fluid that the brake system uses.

Although there was some saturation on and all along the upper shelf inside the trunk, below the windshield, (which led to my confusion) the bulk of the fluid was making its way to the outside of the vehicle through a channel on the inside of the firewall, then out near the right power steering boot.
