I am intending a meeting at the track in acouple of weeks and someone suggested to me to change the brake lines for my car. This will enable the car to stop alot quicker. I have no knowledge if this is true or not. Does anyone have any experience with this suggestion and if so what lines would you recommend and where can I get them?

    Thank You

    Domenic

    Hi Domenic,

Changing the brake lines to stainless steel lines is a common upgrade. Search the forums for "ss brake" or "stainless brake" in the subject lines and you'll find a lot of information. Demon Tweeks in the UK sells Goodridge lines that fit your 328.

They improve pedal feel (firmness) but will not help you stop any faster, really--you can really only stop as fast as you can while not locking up the tires! People have also upgraded rotors, calipers, and wheels to improve the braking.

I would not change them right before an event.
Like most things Ferrari, sometimes it ain't that easy.
I had to track down some cone shaped sealing washers to get a few of my connections to stop leaking, others have remade the short solid caliper hoses to stop the leaks.
The Goodridge hoses from DemonTweeks (in UK) are very nice, pretty cheap when ordered direct and shipped quickly.

I tried to order 308 stainless brake lines from Demon Tweeks a few months ago and they would not sell them without a sample front and rear line from my car so they could confirm that the connections were correct. I opted to buy them from another company so the car was not down for such a long time.

I don't know if the 328 lines are a more standard dimension, so you may have no problems.

I also agree that changing these lines out before you need the car can prove
troubling. You never know how it will go- but at least you have your old ones to put back on in a pinch.

Last month I replaced the original brake lines with the Goodrich ones on my 328. It was a long job as I had to move the attachments a little out as the thread of the Goodrich is shorter than the original.
Result is a firmer pedal but on improvement in braking distance.

So was there a great difference with the overall braking of your car with the new lines?

Frankly not. This was perhaps related to the fact that the original lines were so "rigid" that they almost behaved like metal ones.
I mainly did the job because ageing of the lines did not make me so comfortable. After having inspected the old hoses, I was glad I did it. They seemed almost brittle. Sorry no pictures.
    Ciao
