I've searched, and most of the threads are years old so I figure there needs to be new information/input on replacing brake pads. I am just wondering what brake pads besides OEM Brembo you guys have used (Im looking for a cheaper alternative)? In some other posts I've seen these EBC Brake Pad Set Shopping Cart | Auto Parts Warehouse Does anyone have experience with these? Are there any other sets besides the stock ones that already have the sensors built in? If not, how hard is it to put the sensors in aftermarket ones? Any info would be great. Thanks.
Just checked our their site, price seems good, and the fact that it is ready to go for the factory sensors is nice! Thanks!
I put on EBC pads. The ones they refer to as "Red Stuff". They have less dust than the stock Brembo and less costly than buying the Ferrari parts. They did squeal at first, but not after they bedded in. Initially, it was an oh sh#t moment ... the squeal was so bad. But the sound began to dissipate rapidly and after about 100 miles of gentle driving around, the noise is completely gone. I was warned that due to the composition of the pads and the very slight irregularities in the rotors, that squealing is common until the pads bed in. Steve
Im getting ready to replace my brake pads in a few months as well. Do you know if we have to change the rotors as well? Whats the price on the OEM brembo pads vs the Girodisk? And does the giro disk squeal all the time? Whats the quietest option with low break dust? Sorry for my lack of experience and questions. New ferarri owner here.
I just had my rotors and pads replaced after 15K miles (incl. 3 track days). pads were ~$300 each and rotors ~$350 each IIRC.
EBC & PAGID are good alternatives. The steel brakes on the 360 aren't that special. I don't mean that as a criticism but a reality. The EBC reds at around 120 bux will be just fine. However, always do what makes you feel most comfortable.
I replaced the pads on my R8 with EBC Red Stuff. No squeal, low dust, great performance. I've been meaning to do the same on my 430, but haven't gotten around to it.
Yes, they have notches for the sensors ... if you get the right ones ... For the 360 ... Without the wear indicator slots, the RedStuff pads are PN DP31140C With the wear indicator slots, the RedStuff pads are PN DP31909C I have found them as low as $160 for all four wheels ... ebc dp31909c | Partsgeek.com Same pads front and rear. Steve
The only difference is that the fronts need to have slots for the sensors. The rears do not need the slots, but the pads with slots can be used on the rears. Steve
Ordered the EBC Redstuff DP31909C's for the front today, the backs still look good, I'll let everyone know how it goes.
I prefer Ferodo pads. Great street and track. I slather Never-Seeze compound on the backside of the pad to minimize squeal. Should 'turn' the rotors if not new ones going on with the new pads.
First, I double checked the part number on EBC's web site. Those part numbers that I quoted earlier are correct for the 360. http://ebcbrakes.com/Assets/ecatalogues/2013-us-auto/2013-us-auto-catalogue.html#p=174 According to EBC guidelines, you should not mix brake pads front and rear. Putting EBC Redstuff on the front and keeping the stock pads on the rear is not optimum (according to EBC). But, they state is OK to keep stock on rear and RedStuff on front ... but not optimum. My opinion for what it is worth, is that you are only saving about $80 by keeping the stock pads on the rear wheels. I would change them along with the fronts. It is very easy and quick change. I am not an expert mechanic and maybe others with more knowledge can weigh in. Regards, Steve
I have the EBC Redstuff pads on my TR. They are quiet and do the job of stopping the car. I would NOT call them low dust, IMHO. YMMV.
I just did mine yesterday. All fours. EBC Red Stuff - $180.00 Resurfaced rotors - $100.00 2 Cans of brake cleaners - $6.00 2 Liter DOT 4 brake fluid - $20.00 Total: $306.00
I recently went thru the brakes on my '04 360 and used the EBC Red Stuff. I bought the pads on Amazon.com for $85US. I also rebuilt the calipers and got the seals from ************. They are a friendly group and were very helpful. Even talked me out of buying titanium shield that go between the pads and the caliper pistons. They said for a street car I don't need them.
