hey everyone, my car is at 22k miles and dealer has mentioned that its very close to needing new brake pads. the squeeking has been very annoying and I was wondering if anyone found some brake pads that don't make any noise?
I have original rotors so they are ceramic. Original brake pads as well. 2011 458 italia. Looking to get quiet brake pads. I don't track the car.
The pads should outlast the car under normal road use, my 430 with 16 k miles are like new. Has the car been tracked in its life and how much % age wear on the discs ?
Here is the front and rear. Rear look good but front need replacement. The car was never tracked and I bought it with 7k miles and did a power warranty on it and the Ferrari dealer also mentioned it was never tracked Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The service report should show the %age wear on the discs.( mine are 21% worn as a guide) Try jacking the car up and see if the wheels turn freely in case the calipers pistons are sticking ( 430 is bad for doing that). Then start engine and press brake, check wheel again if free That is a lot of wear for 22k miles, mine like new at 16 k miles.
My opinion. The brake wear depends on the kind of use. I drive my car the way it was engineered to be driven and brakes lasted me to around 16-17k miles. As far as pads I'd buy them from scuderia parts and have an indy install them. The discs are too expensive to take a chance on non oem parts. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I run OEM pads on my car, too, also from Scuderiacarparts. All pads on carbon ceramic discs seem to squeak a little. If they squeak a lot, something is wrong with the interface between the pad backs and the pistons/calipers. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
I thought the pagid rsc1 are better for dics life compared to OEM? Did you have another experience? I keep reading a lot of conflicting info on these forums.
I've found that the squeak is part of the program when in race mode. Especially the squeak coming from the rear. The brakes pullsate a bit as part of the stability control. Even when you're not going particularly fast. I've also found that as the pad wears the squeaks become more prominent. I've never used any outside pads. My car is under the power warranty and I don't want any repairs to be denied due to using aftermarket parts. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
You should check the power warranty. Not sure brakes are covered, so if that’s correct, you can use whatever pad you want. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
