I leave in the Alps, my brakes are under heavy stress.

You've got to bear in mind that the front rotors are hard to find, so you'd better sacrifice the pads.

I've seen a huge improvement after a complete flush (4 liters) with ATE Typ240 break fluid. This is not the best fluid, but it is not outrageously expensive, so you can always run on fresh fluid. (see https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/ate-super-blue-racing-vs-shell-dot-4-ultra.573138/#post-145911743).

There are 3 bleeder screws per caliper, do not forget the third one in the back as this is the one that sits on top of the caliper and allows to flush whatever water is trapped in the caliper.

In order to simplify the flush, I use speed-bleeders. Initially I've tried a vacuum bleeder system, but was really disappointed.

A light resurface of the discs can also make a huge difference.

You need to find "soft" pads, these wear faster but "grab" more.

While I don’t have these, I hear a lot of good things about Porterfield’s pads as a # of Porsche owners swear by them (I know, I know).

Potterfield's has good sales techs and can discuss your options. Remember the 400/400i (maybe 365 but not sure about 412) have same pad pattern as BMW 2002 but THINNER, pads. Porterfield supplied me a set that was too thick but quickly exchanged them for correct thickness.

I need to change the front back pads and have the (I hope) correct Porterfield pads - AP82 R4-S . If anyone knows of a video showing the procedure to do so I'd appreciate it.

Just a follow-up on this thread : I've just refreshed my calipers and installed the very same pads as the OP (Ferodo Premium Eco Friction FDB161, presumably more eco-friendly). I just have to say that unfortunately they do not suit our cars very well, and cannot sustain repeated brakes at high speed.

So time to find again a proper set of pad that is easily available in Europe. Will try to identify what my retired mechanic installed back then. These were not racing pads, but they had 3 chamfers (instead of a single one on the ferodo), this could explain the better capability to cope with the heat.

This being said I cannot complain against the Ferodo eco : at €29.50 they will be good enough to pass inspection!

I've been recommended Ferodo DS2500 pads, but haven't actually tried them yet!

I'd love to get a list compiled of currently available alternates. What else were the calipers used on besides 2002s?

    Good day Brian,

Believe or not, but Rock Auto does list brake pad options for the 365 GT4 2+2 (and 512BB, etc) models. The selections are not high performance options, but for daily drivers and in areas with modest speeds, I suspect that they will be fine. Many of the choices indicate the pads are for either ATE or Girling calipers. I could be mistaken, but I think all calipers were ATE.

Here is the link for the 365 GT4 2+2 Brake Pad options.

    https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ferrari,1975,365+gt4,4.4l+v12,1433041,brake+&+wheel+hub,brake+pad,1684

... not how inexpensive they are...

When I look for the 400 series, no options are provided... I find this odd, as if I check the parts manuals the 400 brake pad part numbers (108073 front and 108076 rear) are the same as used on the 365 GT4 2+2

I did order a front/rear set from RockAuto a while back and when I get back to the shop I will post pics and dimensions so that all can check to see if they are indeed correct in side, etc.

    Cheers,

    Sam

These are not the bmw type of pads as they have to be 15mm thick (40mm calipers were similar to the 3.0CS and 630CSI, but spacer was different so pad thickness is not the same as bmw).

The issue with the eco friction is the low metalic coumpound that does not have as much bite as the "not eco-friendly" pads. These eco pads do produce less dust.

It seems my good pads were Jurid, but now both both ferodo and Jurid belong to Federal MoguI and have switched to eco-coumpound...

Pagid do provide Portfield-like pads, but at a hefty price tag, and I only mean to reclaim my original performance, not racing pads. Will try Mintex or Textar, hoping they use a regular old-school coumpound (lots of coper, and dusty!).

Here is the list of compatible pads (extract from a french supplier cross-reference):
