    Hi all. I did a forum search for brake pads for an 86 328 and found the following;
Porsche front pads for 911/912 circa 1969-1977 M caliper. ?
Porsche front pads for 911/930 circa 1969-1977 S caliper. ?
Porsche front pads for 911/912E circa 1975-1983 A caliper. ?
    Did I miss something ???

Rear pads for the Porsche 914-4 or 914-6, different part numbers... ?

Can anyone narrow this down for me as I wish to reline the brakes while I replace the cv boots, also a Porsche part as shown on the forum...

    Thanks in advance...

Steve, any of those front pads will work. The differences between the caliper series you listed above are the a) spacing of the ears, and b) width of the rotor, neither of which affects the pad dimension. That said, your 308 has vented calipers of the same 20mm width, same as the later ('75-'83) 911, so I'd suggest going with that spec as I think you'll find the earlier pads are very slightly thicker than what your 308 caliper wants to accept.

Incidentally, pads for a '84 to '88 911 will work just fine too - only difference between the later ('84-'88) calipers is that the spacer is 4mm wider to accommodate a 24mm rotor instead of 20mm, but this doesn't affect the pad dimension.

I bought the rear pads from Pelican Parts, spec'd for a 914-6 and they're the same Ate semi-metallic pads as I bought for the front. Fronts were about $45/set and rears were about $35/set - very inexpensive compared to the $100+/set f or r that many retailers are asking for "OEM ferrari" (Ate) pads, which of course, are exactly the same darn part.

This place also has very good pricing on the various pads: www.autohausaz.com

    Hi Steve,

Brake technology has come a long way since the 70s and 80s, specifically pad compounding. There are many different pads out there that offer less noise, better coefficient of friction, longer life, better disc life, less - or no dusting, better initial bite or release..

But not all at once, so you might talk to the guys at Girodisc to get a pad that fits your driving style

Martin was indispensible in getting together my brake redo - very knowledgeable.

Thank you for the replies... All
Cliff, your response mentioned a 308 ? and I am servicing a 328. Are the pads the same ???
I believe the rotors are different too.

    Hi Steve,

Ah, OK, didn't notice you're working on a 328. I'm not so familiar with the 328 brakes. My guess would be that (other than the later 328s with ABS) they're the same as 308, but I don't know for sure - sorry.
