Hi, Please help! I'm very disappointed with my 458 due to the fact when driving low speeds and stop sign every 5 blocks brakes squeal. Which makes my ride sound like a beater Can someone help me put the love back in my 458? Thank you, Justjoe
Assuming it has carbon ceramic brakes- it is common for them to squeal at low speed- Porsche even includes an insert in the owner's manual covering this. Find a safe spot- get the car up to about 50mph and nail the brakes hard- then do the same <but not at 50 mph> in reverse - should make a difference
This is a common problem on any car after installing new pads and disks. The solution as mentioned above is to properly "bed" the pads to the new disks. Several repeated hard stops from high speed will get the disks hot enought to bed the pads. You need to be careful to find a road where you can safely perform the high speed hard breaking.
Okay, thank you! I have 26,000 miles and yes they are original ceramic pads and rotors. I will definitely give this a try. This has been ongoing issue and I've just been living with it hoping that the squeal would go away, apparently not Thanks again guys!
As above, find a safe place to make a few hard stops and the squeal... will disappear. You may have to do this from time to time if the squeal reappears. Just part of owning the car
Thanks Bob...will do! I shoulda asked alot sooner instead of being tormented by the horrible sound this whole time!
Hi, I haven't had a chance to try and bed the brakes yet to see if that solves my issue, if that doesn't, I'll look into the pads. Thank you for the advice! Joe
What's the pad thickness? Before going through any bedding in process, that's the first question. Ray
Hi Ray, I can't tell without removing wheel, I've had vehicle for 6 years and its been an issue since day one. I just leaned to accept it and I don't drive it much, but when I do it drives me crazy to have such a beautiful vehicle and it too squeal which is VERY embarrassing I did the 50mph and then a hard stop several times as suggestedby other fellow ferrari owners, which I appreciated very much and yes....it temporarily went away, only to come back and haunt me again I own a 2010 ML63 AMG and have had since new. Never ever have I had brakes squeal with now 180K miles and still runs and stops squeak free as if it was 2010 again. Germans have it together. My best friend with a Porsche GT turbo which never squeals either...just wanted to mention this. Joe
Sometimes you can chamfer the leading and trailing edges of the pads slightly (on a bench grinder) and that will cut down on things. Stock pad thickness is 10mm - often times you can peek in there and get an idea of what's left. Ray
Hi again, Should I replace with Brembos or Giro Disc Magic Pads guaranteed low dust and squeal free....I'm stumped again. Joe
I'd stick with Brembo - whatever Ferrari's part # comes back to. Pads are matched to the carbon material in the rotors typically. Ray

Here are some photos showing the Brembo part #'s for the pads I purchased for my 458 in case it's helpful to you or someone in the future. Ray Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I would also consider removing the pads, deglaze the pad surface and put an anti-squeal compound on the back of the pads and to the contact areas between the pad and caliper. Do not get any on the pad surface. After that do a proper bedding in procedure.

I'll check it out all along with advice given by many others as well...Thank all of you guys for your tips and help!!
The issue is not lack of grease on the pad backing plate. These pads should be assembled as clean as a kitchen with zero grease. Yes, the Brembo kit will include a tube of grease. Do not use it. The issue is not going to be fixed by performing the brake bedding procedure. It is possible this may temporarily eliminate the squeak--but it ALWAYS returns. The issue is your pads' age and heat cycles. You need to replace the pads. I'd also recommend modifying the pads with a Dremmel to fix the Brembo design flaw. (check my other posts for details)
Hi, I haven't had a chance to cme back on here. I will address possibly replacing pads over the winter when I obviously won't be driving the vehicle. So far the bedding worked, but as you mentioned it's a temporary fix cuz it did slowly come back. So, for now the temporary fix will be better than how it was and I thank all of you for the advice tip!
