Further to Joes post in the Silverstone track day thread; Can anyone let me know the precise details and who is likely to go. Didn't intend joining FOC until 1st November(what a cheapskate!) so can I still drive the Fcar? Cheers Kevan See you down the road -with big smiles on both our faces
I think you may have to join if you want to ride on the track Kevan??? Im looking forward to it fingers crossed on weather
I'll be there Kevan with new tyres on. More people should make the effort to track there cars, as that is what they were made for, I dont care how fast you think you can drive , untill you have tracked it you have no idea how fast these cars can go round corners, or how much you enjoy it. If its not for you don't do it again. Lifes for living. When you old and the grankids see a picture of you and your Ferrari and say what did you do in it grandad, what you going to tell them that you cleaned it, drove to a couple of pubs for a meeting. Im sure this won't impress them as much as the storys of you on the Track back in the day. You Drive it. You break it. you fix it. you Drive it. Otherwise whats the point in having it. Sorry for the lecture but if we do not support these days they will go, then its just the cleaning and the pub again. Andy.
totally agree with you mate to many polisher's on here it started to rain at donnington and they was all stood with umberallas trying to protect there cars I use mine 12 months of the year
I'll defo be there, but in deference to Andy's comments, I won't be driving mine on the track, coz if anything goes pear shaped, I can't afford to fix it. Also, it's a jungle out there (and on an RMS track day, a bleeding war zone), and I do not have the confidence to drive in that kind of arena. I'm happy to surrender my mortality to Andy and Joe, as I have more confidence in their abilities at the limit than my own. Seeya there anyway (even if Andy sulks and won't take me around).
Thanks Andy Advice very well given and assure you it will be acted upon. Strangely was reading today old archives concerning Amar Inam and Jens Haller and their fateful crash at the Nurnburgring. For the newer members one of the many sobering threads is here http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/174013/272669.html So I obviously need to join FOC asap - correct? Whose the best person to contact about that? Need to tell insurers Carole Nash - anyone had a problem with them on track days? Any other advice gratefully received! Cheers Kevan See you down the road - with big smiles on our faces
I have to agree with Stiggi.I would like to track my but couldn't afford the bills if it all went pearshaped.Plus after seeing the poor standard of driving at Silverstone(especially those with instructors) the old red mist would come down and I would be doing things that I shouldn't be doing. Daz
!Hey! andy you forgot something dont you run different tyre pressures on the track to the road ?????????
Stig Glad someone else commented on that rather tactless post! I was going to post "low blow" in reply - but thought even that could be misconstrued!! Look forward to seeing you at Brands. Cheers Kevan See you down the road - with big smiles on our faces
done it my self but the other way round in 1988 tyre pressure to high and wrecked a 6 month old 3dr cosworth as i didnt lower the tyre pressure from road setting 30 laps cost me 4 tyres 1 clutch full set of brakes and a turbo manifold cracked and towed home from mallory park but my mates supra turbo got stuffed into the tyre wall at the track and was written off it was a company car and he lost his job tyre pressure can go up alot depending on track temp and how hard you are driving
Ooouuuccchhh!! Sounds expensive! How much will the tyre temperature go up? Or to put it another way, how much should you drop your pressures for the track?
I am not sure stig but they are more accurate when cold you get a different reading when warm with just standard road use in my hand book pirelli bridgstone michelin all run at 34psi but goodyear 's are 31psi so different makes run different pressure's but for andy's to blow out like that in the picture he has posted i pressume he must of run them low on the track day and on the way home the temparture was in the tyres anyway but in the morning run to donnington the tyre was cold the road was cold how far did he get before it happened ???????
About 30 miles, but with two 10 minutes stops to meet up with others. Clearly not enough to warm the air in the tyres up enough to bring the tyres up to an appropriate operating pressure. Jeez though, when you you think of what could have happened.....
Steve im not convinced thats it cos 15mins before that we were doing 16 and this would of got his tyres up to temp,!!! It was a flook it could happen at any time to any of us...
really need to know what was in it pressure wise if it was so low like under 20psi you would think the car would be all over the road ????? need to find out the pressure for the next track day
I may well come down to this guy's,havent been to brand's for 20 years so im gona set my feet on the southen turf, hope it can hold the weight of the mullet, does that mean i will have to go round that m25 thing, there must be another route, Dale.
I can honestly say Stiggy my old mucker that ive never broken the sound opps speed limit on our lovely roads... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Good man Steve look forward to it. Dale you will like Brands its far more interesting than Silverstone.
