I doubt that we will see cars running out of fuel. They will have to fuel the cars for a full race on green and how many races make it full length without a caution or safety car any more? The yellow flag and safety car laps will provide a margin for error. Does anyone think any of the cars will run with less than a full load betting on a safety flag?

Not a chance! - Yellow flags barely result in 'em slowing down and to be effective a SC would need to be out for many, many laps to make it viable - Too big of a gamble.

Doesn't anyone here remember the days before refueling? - The races were also longer back then and they managed just fine.....

    Cheers,
    Ian

We agree, Ian, but for one minor point. It doesn't take many, many laps of the safety car to make a difference. The fuel savings is 30%, which means 0.9 lap of fuel saved for every 3 under the safety car. Therefore, it would only take 3 laps of safety car (and I don't remember one being out for fewer than that) for a car racing on the edge to get back within a safe fuel margin. One thing that hasn't been discussed is rain. Lap times are reduced substantially, but is fuel consumption, what with the spinning tires? I've never heard the guys on SPEED talk about fuel consumption in the rain vs dry conditions. Does anyone know?
