Locking up several times behind Kimi was not driving for fun.

Lewis seriously wanted to reach the podium.

Oh yes for sure he wanted to be on that podium, and for that alone I think that is admirable, however I believe the Merc apparently is a handful to drive following in dirty air, so personally I think he did really well to get as far as he did, and for me it just goes to show when he came up to the Ferrari it was a match for the Merc, so as I said earlier, the end of the season WDC race could have been a lot closer, had Ferrari not had some of it's self inflicted issues.

Huh what are you referring to ..dirty air ? if so yes I'am sure, obviously the serious extra grunt of that Merc PU is a major helping factor.

If it was that easy, as you are trying to imply, then why couldn't Bottas get past Vettel.

I'd say its fair to say it was a bridge too far for Hamilton to get past Kimi had the race gone on longer then maybe he would have, it was impressive he got on his gearbox.

You can slice and dice the race as many times as you want, but the fact remains Lewis was no "GOAT" yesterday.

Valtteri could not get past Sebastian, because he did not have the extra "Beans" as Ted Kravitz reported on

I never said he was the GOAT, I just thought he had a great drive from the back, considering he has the WDC title wrapped up.

It made the race interesting, in the sense that had he not screwed up his qualifying, he may have shot off into the sunset..and that's boring IMO.

The extra beans what Ted refers to, is probably what separates the good ones from the great ones, in tenths of a sec.

The "Beans" refers to an extra performance mode, not available to Valtteri yesterday, or the other customer engines.

Between the top cars overtaking is virtually impossible, Vettel went first at the start and then it was over. Raikkonen had no chance to pass Bottas, the order was decided in qualifying.
Then Hamilton in spite of better tyres (which he could chose only because he did not take part to the full qualifying session) could not overtake Raikkonen either.
"The best driver" had to start from the pit lane because he crashed during the qualifying session, not because of an external factor; it's like saying that Mercedes won in Japan because the "best car" (Vettel's Ferrari) did not finish. None of both statements makes sense IMHO.

Is that your interpretation of beans, or is that a fact that Bottas has less power, I'd be interested to know why they hadn't given him the full power available.

The "run from the back" is overblown.
The leaders lapped half the field, and the "best of the rest" finished some 15 seconds behind the lead teams.
Passing back markers isn't in the same category with mixing it up with equivalent hardware.

Remember the demo where an F1 car started a half lap behind a Fiat sedan and overtook it before the finish?
That kind of thing is not really a commentary on the driver.

Perhaps we ought to park this chat and look for easier topics to agree on. For instance, was Strolls drive yesterday one of the most pathetic displays in F1 history? It's got to be close....

For those who think Elton race was something special, please go back to 2006 and watch what a really GOAT is able to do, even with a lap down and no safety car!

Don't mean to change the subject gents BUT.....some news YET AGAIN regarding some IDIOTS around the track.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

    Pirelli Motorsport‏Verified account @pirellisport

Following a robbery attempt, neutralized by Pirelli security, on a Pirelli van at the Interlagos circuit last Sunday – after a weekend where similar episodes occurred with other teams –it has been decided to cancel the tyre test (1/2)

    Pirelli Motorsport‏Verified account @pirellisport

planned on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 on the Brazilian circuit with @McLarenF1. The decision, shared with McLaren, FIA and Formula 1, was made in the interest of the safety of the personnel, both McLaren’s and our own, who would have participated in the test. (2/2)

    [IMG] McLaren‏Verified account @McLarenF1

We have jointly decided with Pirelli to cancel this week’s tyre test at Interlagos. The safety of our people has always been our top priority, and, given recent events, we felt that it was an unnecessary risk to proceed.

Indeed it's such a shame, not just for the track but the whole country. I'd love to live there but the crime out there is completely prohibitive. Same goes for South Africa btw (having lived there too), I know too many people that have been robbed at gunpoint, some shot and some murdered just for possessions.
