Does anyone think pole position for this track should be the inside lane where Vettel started? The outside theoretically is better because the racing line for the first turn, a left hander, is outside in from Bottas’ position. But as we saw, a close start actually favors the inside lane, unless Max has pole and pushes you into contacting the inside barrier.

F1 owner says Brazil security not our responsibility

F1 has hit the ball into the court of the race organisers, after a spate of violent incidents surrounding the Brazilian grand prix.

Multiple teams suffered armed or violent robbery attempts during the race weekend as they travelled from Interlagos to hotels.

And now Pirelli has called off a planned post-race tyre test with McLaren, after a van containing staff of the F1 supplier became the latest victim of the notorious Sao Paulo crime.

The situation has triggered speculation F1 might not return to Interlagos, amid rumours Rio de Janeiro or Florianopolis might be alternative grand prix venues.

F1 owner Liberty Media has been late to officially respond to the Sao Paulo violence, but a spokesperson now insists that disappointment "is not a strong enough word".

The sport is putting the ball in race organisers' court, making clear it requires a strong response.

"It is not our responsibility," the spokesperson insisted.

"We are just the commercial rights holder. We sell those rights to the local promoter and security within the circuit is their responsibility.

"We have our own security team that travels with us and we are actively involved, but we cannot be experts in every city we go to.

"We have a year between now and the next race to get it sorted, and we would be extremely disappointed if things have not been looked at," the spokesperson added.

and this gem - not sure who the rich kid is....at all :)

--It's time to make up the right rules for F1 with a more level playing field, the right finances so we ensure the fastest and not the richest kids are filling every seat, and a mix of iconic and historic venues along with accessible and dramatic new tracks. All at a price the fans can justify.--

+1. Which makes it disappointing that Kimi did not mount a serious challenge on Bottas. Also provides context on Lewis being able to 'catch up' to Kimi by race end.

Rio is worse than Sao Paulo and Florianopolis doesn't have structure to receive such event.

There are races at tracks around the world that I think would be great to attend, but the local safety concerns make it not worth the risk. Interlagos is one of them.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Mayor says Sao Paulo not losing grand prix

Sao Paulo mayor Joao Doria has dismissed as "speculation" reoprts Interlagos is set to lose the Brazilian grand prix.

A cloud was already over the race's future even before a spate of violent robbery incidents marred the recent 2017 edition.

But after that, the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper claimed Florianopolis had been earmarked as a potential alternative venue for the Brazilian grand prix.

"There was nothing except speculation," Sao Paulo mayor Doria told Brazil's Globo.

"We are contracted with the FIA and Liberty until 2020," he insisted.

"And we hope it will continue for another five, ten years after Interlagos is privatised," Doria added.

"Sao Paulo is the largest centre and tourist and business destination in Latin America," he explained. "Without any disrespect to Florianopolis or any other Brazilian city, Sao Paulo is as important to F1 as F1 is to the city."

They are probably right that f1 needs a Brazilian gp, but let’s hope common sense prevails and they realise security has to be taken seriously from now on, its beyond a joke. Where else would armed gangs be able to reap such havoc over a few days...... imagine if some terrorists realised how easy unorganised gangs were able to get hold of team representatives, and decided to target them for their gain..... doesn’t bear thinking about.
