I think it is going to be a tough race for Ferrari and Alonso to finish ahead if Red Bull. Red Bull was more than a half a minute ahead of Ferrari last year at Brazil. And last race at the US GP, Red Bull was also over 30 seconds ahead of Ferrari. One way for Alonso to win is if Vettel has the same kind of electrical Kers failure which Weber suffered. I don't know if Red Bull is allowed to install a fresh Kers system in Vettels car. But I'll be watching and rooting for Alonso
I think you'll find that it was the alternator that we giving Mark grief and not the KERS although both have caused problems for Red Bull in the past - unfortunately mostly in Marks car but fingers crossed that its Vettels turn to suffer mechanical issues - even then you still need Alonso on the podium to get the title.
Thanks for the clarification. Do you think that Red Bull is going to install a fresh alternator in both cars? Would that be allowed in Vettels car even if he didn't have a failure?
Interesting news from Pirelli. Im sure Newey will be keen to observe this effect. http://en.espnf1.com/f1/motorsport/story/95527.html
I believe so. It's considered an "ancillary" component IIRC. (oil & fuel pumps etc are the same.) Interesting. Thanks. I'm sure they all will be...... An (unfair?) advantage as implied in the article? What's this mean; The tires are gonna "deflect" more? WTF!? Cheers, Ian
Not the tires, "the rear tire" (singular)! There'll obviously be more changes to the cars than we thought
Anything can happen. Who of us thought Alonso could win the second GP of the season in Malaysia or be the first repeat winner of the season?
I disagree, all it takes is some rain or a mechanical issue on the Red Bull for Alonso to have a shot.
Don´t forget that Vettel is currently the best driver in the rain so, unless the Can behaves like a brick in these conditions, that won´t necesserely help Alonso.....remenber fuji 07?
Ferrari Pit team needs to do better too. What was the explanation for the left rear tire taking so long to change. Ferrari was 4 seconds slower than Lewis's stop.
Maybe the run against Vettel is lost (unless it rains), but the battle between Ferrari and McLaren for second place is not finished. F is only 14 points ahead of Mc, so Massa better get his butt ready and fight more. I'm sure LdM wants to at least stay in second in the championship.
That's what I'm seeing there. Let's say the rears deflect based on aero, Red Bull would obviously have tons of rear deflection which means at speed their tall rear ride height would shrink thus making their EBD effect lessened UNLESS they run an even higher static ride height to compensate for the deflection. Then it becomes a question of how much deflection is there at what speed/psi of aero on the wheels. I also have to wonder if more deflection = less strong sidewalls meaning we will see deflection during turning which actually sounds dangerous to me as such a deflection in a turn would change entirely the aerodynamic attitude of a car, and doing so while turning doesn't sound particularly safe.
I assume you're being sarcastic? I do remember Fuji 07- classic Vettel F$%k up running into the back of Mark Webber in the rain - what was it Webber said after the race about Vettel - " Its kids with no experience f$%king it up for everyone. " From his antics at Abu Dabhi I don't think he's learned much.
Not trying to be clever, but WTF is "deflecting based on aero"?....... The ****ing tire is gonna do a big ol' diameter change ala top fuel dragsters? Sure, we know that contra rotating tires hanging out in the airstream suck, but "deflection due to aero"!?..... I dunno..... Not saying it can't happen - Hembery seems to think it will - But I want to understand what he's on about. Cheers, Ian
Fuji 2007 was Hamilton's fault. He slowed down a ridiculous amount or something, causing webber also brake hard, otherwise be penalized for overtaking under the SC. There was even discussion for a DQ for Hamilton for the next race....
60% chance of rain on Sunday (although I've seen it as high as 80% this year and nothing happened at other races). If it rains Alonso has a decent chance to win. If he wins, vettel has to finish 4th or higher to win the WDC....
The thing with rain is that both drivers, Alonso and Vettel are rain masters. Vettel might even be a tad better at it than Alonso. That said, most other drivers suck in the rain and thus improves the chances for an accident by running into one of the title contenders. At this point only a DNF from Vettel (mechanical or accidental) can bring the WDC to Alonso. Everything else is wishful thinking.
