I'll go either Saturday or Sunday depending on weather.

Do you know of a good, twisty route from Milwaukee to RA?

Kurt, there are some great driving roads to RA. For example, I sometimes go North on 83 from Delafield until you reach 167 and turn right on 167 towards Holy Hill. You travel on 167 several miles and turn left (North) on Hillside and you go for awhile crossing 60 until you hit NN and turn right on NN to Z. Take Z to 33 (Washington Street) and turn right on 33. Go about 2 miles and hop on to 45 and go North to Kewaskum.

(You can also just go from 167 to 45 and 45 to Kewaskum)

When you get into Kewaskum from 45 turn right on 28 (Main Street) and then in about 1/4 mile approximately turn left from 28/Main on to Riverview which is County Road S that turns into County Hwy G. Take S/G until you reach 67. Take a right on 67.

(You can also keep going on 45 through Kewaskum until you hit 67; and turn right on 67 from 45 and take 67 into Plymouth as you'll go past Long Lake, etc.)

Whether you get to 67 from G or 45 you take 67 past Long Lake, etc. into Plymouth. From Plymouth you are almost at RA.

If you look at a map you will see many variations of driving roads to Road America. :)

Looks like we are bringing down my wifes yellow 66 corvette this year. Can't wait to get there.

Did anyone work out special parking?

    thanks Mike!

I took a nice drive past Holy Hill just last night. Living downtown has it's plusses, but good driving is not one of them.

Looking at a map/google is a good start but I'm always thinking that a better road is just a missed turn away, have to take a day and just get lost sometime!

Really appreciate the routes/tips - will get an early start this weekend and take the twisty route up to TA :)

    cheers

    YES!!

+1 on taking the above-recommended roads. They are as good as ANYTHING I have ever driven, including Pacific Coast Highway near Monterey/Big Sur.

Looks like a pretty good turnout of vintage cars according to the RA website entry list. The GT40 display tent should bring in some nice cars along with the vintage F1 races. The weather should be great, in the 70's and sunny this weekend. I see a couple of F1 Ferrari 312's and a Lotus 49 along with a large amount of Ford/Cosworth F1 cars will be coming.

I love Road America, the best track in North America!

    wow, bold words!

We were in your area for the Historics in '98 (ingested plenty of garlic in Gilroy of course) and indeed those are epic roads.

I'll be driving my Superformance GT40 in Group 11. We will be parked in a group outside turn 5. Mine will likely be the only Titanium MKI without any numbers or stripes. (This all hinges on a faulty fuel pump being replaced in time.)

I'll be driving up Thursday afternoon in the TR for the entire weekend. Mike the route you detailed is just the one I take although I'm traveling from the north shore of Milwaukee. I pickup 67 out of Kewaskum as you described. It's a great drive right thru the heart of the Kettle Moraine. Weather looks sunny & cool. See you all there.

I'll trade you rides in a 66 Corvette (w/ my wife....if need be) for a ride in your beautiful TR. Lets have drinks at that downstairs bar/lounge at the Osthoff some night!

We leave early tomorrow... no net access the whole weekend....run into you there.

We weren't able to get the early start on Sunday that we'd hoped for, so ended up just going for a drive in the afternoon.
Ended up not far from Elkhart, but it was about 6PM at the time...

Anybody have photos from the event?

By the way - thanks Mike for the tips. I used them and found a few decent curves on Highway G, but I imagine if we'd just gone a bit further north on highway G past Long Lake instead of turning east for home on Highway F we'd have found more.

Will take this route again up to RA for the Ferrari event and hopefully find even more.

I have a few photos. This is the best/worst one. Those Group 6 guys are insane. This was on the exit of Canada Corner. The white Mustang spun right in front of the blue one and they hit the inside wall.

It was a beautiful day at the track. What other kinds of pictures would you be interested in? A friend of mine took over 1100 photos over the weekend.

Did your friend happen to be there on friday? A friend had his blue no stripe ford gt on the track during touring and was hoping someone had some more pictures of it.

It's a disease, I took about 2,000 images from Thursday - Sunday at the track and the Concours on both nights.

Too bad about the mustangs, they can be fixed.

So far I've only gotten through a few images and posted these in the Lamborghini area:

    Erik,

I had no room to pack a camera in my car, so I have no pix of the weekend. I was driving the solid silver GT40 MKI Superformance in the Group 11 sessions and had it parked on the bricks in front of the Osthoff on Saturday night. If you run across any shots of me, please let me know. I'd love to see them. Thanks.

You were the one taking pics during the touring...if so, you got some great shots. I toured on Sunday with a small group of guys and I think we all should be getting at least one print. I was driving a blue Honda Civic Si; you got a lot of shots of me on page 6; thank you.

Just curious, while touring did you see the Viper spin out on turn 2? My friend and I were laughing at his stupidity!

It was a newer srt-10 convertible. It was a darker color if I remember correctly. He tried to pass some slower cars a little too early and the back stepped out. We then over corrected and spun it into the grass just missing the sand! Then he proceeded to get out of the car and check for damage while all the other cars were flying by....! Anyhow we were driving our Elise, but we didn't tour, instead we were watching turn 2 from the grandstands. I know I remember seeing your Civic there touring!

    Are you talking about saturday?

If so I vaguely remember a G3 claret red or maroon srt-10 being pretty aggressive out of 6 though 7 and down into 8 on his way to the carrousel. And now that people mention it I only saw him for a of coupe laps.

It's funny how people think that BRIC touring is some sort of club event. These meat heads think it's a SCCA qualifier or something. They endanger themselves and the others aorund them....

That same saturday I saw a fart can Honda almost rear end a 612 Scalg going into #8...talk about a potential bad day.

BRIC touring is just that...a tour. Not a race, which is one of the reason why we didn't do it over the weekend (after missing friday, which is the best time to go IMHO).
