I watched parts of it and had no idea they found a hiker on Mount McKinley that was lost and a guy trying to sail the world too...wish that plane was still flying. Hopefully someone at NASA can convince higher ups to get the two from Edwards AFB display and fly them again like the F117s are flying around and justify it for research. They'll have some use. Money isn't a problem...the Fed can print trillions digitally in a nanosecond.
To maintain an SR-71, you would need to print a bunch of money. Spare parts are NLA and I am not even sure they are making JP-7 any more. Plus to really use an SR-71, you need KC-135Qs or equivalent because they are thirsty beasts.

SR71 B58 Concord SS United states. All machines that could still run and were running when retired. We're talking 50's (concorde 60s), leading edge tech. Its sadly just not viable to try make these things run now. An old steam train can be made to run with volonteer cubic man hours because the pasts can be made in a blacksmiths forge and the fuel is easy. A B17 same thing, lots of man hours and parts can be found or made from scratch with fairly basic equipment, plus the fuel is still plentiful.The support equipment to run a SR71, not to mention specialised hydraulics fuels and parts, its possible but realisticaly not. The valkyrie and b58 they were to expensive and complex to run even back in the day, SR71 had a longer lifespan because it did somehting then for which there was no alternative so cost be dammed. U2 is great because its a simple machine, a glider with a reliable turbojet. Furtehr down the scale makes one wonder how a SF90 or P1 will be maintained 30 years from now.
That was amazing, took me two nights to finish it. A truly great American using American technology to advance freedom.

I’ve seen him twice and thumbed through Sled Driver. It’s a beautiful book but I couldn’t justify the price.
Blackbird Rising, Birth of an Aviation Legend by Donn Byrnes is a good read, but not the end all of SR books. I have a signed copy since our wives were friends in NM.
From the videos that i've seen on YouTube, he looks like a really nice guy to discuss and share his stories. On the other hand may people with knowledge say that there are many other books that tell and show in depth the story of the SR-71. Thank you very much. I'll check it.
