yeah get better man.
I'm (vaguely) aware of Thunder but have never seen a prototype entered in it. at any rate, low, light, open cockpit and big, heavy sedan on the track at the same time = not wise. good to hear that Brian is on the mend.
Glad to hear he will be fine. Cars can be replaced so a good prognosis for our friend Brian is all that matters. Can't wait to see him back out and about.
I've run a half dozen times with my low, light prototype in NASA-Mid Atlantic Lightning because I'd rather be with 2200 lb cars than 3500 lb cars, even if I am 20-30 seconds a lap faster than most of the cars in the group. Really glad Brian is recovering from this bad deal!
When I ran Spec. RX7 NASA the Thunder, SR, and sprint car counts were so low they threw them in with us. The Thunders and sprint cars could barely make it through a corner without spinning. I don't know how many times I was coming around in my momentum RX7 and at exit was one of those sideways to me. If you know RX7's you know there isn't much you can do correcting them without spinning yourself. Now SR's, aren't they like slot cars and attached to track on a rail?
Very sorry to hear of this. I wish Brian a speedy recovery! Never a good thing when a fellow enthusiast is in trouble... -kevin
As an update, the doctors have planned surgery for tomorrow (tues)to repair the bones in his left cheek. Providing all goes as anticipated he should be released on Wed. He'll have to rest (which will be the toughest thing for Brian) and will be sore for a while, but the prognosis is great for a full recovery. Craig spent some time the other night checking the car out, and on further inspection it looks like the pick-up points and frame tubes are intact/straight so it may not be as bad as was earlier speculated.......
I do not know Brian, but I was at the event spectating since I was in Atlanta for the weekend. We saw everything get red flagged and heard it was an accident at turn 7. Knew it had to be serious when we saw the helicopter and cars turning around to drive back to the pits. Glad to know the driver is going to be okay. Prayers are with everyone including the Mustang driver.
Brian Condition Update: Brian is still at AMC, may have some surgery tomororw, still determining with the doctors. most likely he may be discharged on Wed - Whew!!! Injuries to the head, and some hits to the cheek - apparently the drivers left mirror came thru the helmet. he's been sleeping alot so best to send text to his cell... and or post here. will make full - painful recovery!
Really hope he keeps the desire to get back onto the horse that threw him. Good to hear he'll be making a good recovery physically, hope his psyche and spirit are as strong and motivated as, if not more, than before. Altho the older we get, we realize more and more about the limitations of gravity. JD
Just got caught up on this thread. This is terrible! My thoughts and prayers are with you Brian. Glad to hear about a possible discharge tomorrow - that makes me much more comfortable about it all. The car can be fixed or replaced. I'm just glad you're (he's) going to be OK! Hope to see you at a track again soon, buddy. Cheers & C U @ d'Track!! It is extremely rare that the first section that I check in on is the South Central Region site, but that is what I did this morning (no offense, South Central). Hope Brian's surgery goes well and recovery is as short and painless as possible.
I spoke with Brian's brother Craig late last night. Surgery went well, Brian now has 2 plates in his cheek and they repaired the bone around the eye socket. He's doing well and should be able to go home tomorrow (Thursday). We'll keep everyone posted as he progresses. So if y'all want to do the rev & honk fest at his house, this weekend might be a good time ...
Good to see Brian healing in the right hands. Just thinking about his car. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Brian is a 100% self funded privateer and had no sponsorship. This was his hobby and passion. Usually this means that he is "self insured", so the accident is totally out of pocket for him forat least for the machine. I hope he has coverage for his medical needs. More thinking.... How about setting up a fund and donate to rebuild the car? We can call ourselves "sponsors". Brian has a lot of work ahead in his personal healing, let's say we help him get back into a car? JD
Glad to hear Brian is doing better and it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Hope he gets well soon!
Damn I've been away for a few days and came back to this. Thank GOD he will be ok. I'm sorry to hear that this happened to our close friend. Get better BRIAN! Sorry about your car man.
Does anyone have Brians home address? Let's get a time and day to do the honk and rev fest. Say Sunday afternoon? 3 / 4 ish???? JD
