I'm surprised nobody else has posted this or did I miss it? Anyway, he announced he will retire from F1 at the end of the season. Pat Symmonds might step up. Renault looks more and more as coming apart at the seams. Even if Fred wins the title, the cars wont have #1. Anyway, who cares about Renault?! But I can't wait to see Mr 4 syllables in F1.
As of this morning it was just a lingering rumor. F1-Live is claiming that there are conflicting stories that he is either going to sign a contract extension or retire. I hope he stays; he's one of those personalities that I'd like to see remain in F1.
According to Blick he gave an interview in the British "Hello" magazine where he said he would retire. http://www.blick.ch/sport/formel1/artikel43876
HAHA, well what else would he do if he doesn't do one of those two. It makes sense that he would want to call it quits and enjoy life without F1 after his recent medical challenges.
So basically one yellow paper says he gave an interview to other yellow paper. Remember - if papers doesn't have sensation in them, nobody would buy. I'd rate it in "paper tries to sell more copies on 0 facts" category.
The same trash talking manipulating donkey discovered MS and made him a two time world champion. That was really unethical of Flavio!
Well I am surprised the guy didn't get Skin Cancer, as he always seemed to have a year round tan. He will really be missed from F1, not only for his flamboyant style, but his level headedness when it came to budgets and what was good for the fans. In addition, the guy found some incredible talent, MS and Alonso come to mind. He also ran Renault with half the budget of a McLaren or Toyota yet continued to win races these last two seasons.
I will miss him, I think he's done a lot for Renault and the sport itself in general. They knocked Ferrari off their perch for God sakes...as much as I love Ferrari, you have to respect that. I think he brings a lot of excitement to the sport, but cancer does take it's toll, and that kinda lifestyle has no place for someone with cancer. He got to live the life for a while though, so it's not all bad If he beat the cancer, and came back...that would be something! Bet Renault is freaking out though, with him leaving and Alonso leaving...who's left?
What I find very interesting is the fact that there's nothing on Autosport about this. When I read factual reporting I'll believe it. Carol
No need to get snippy. This was an interview done by one of his ex girlfriends. So he probably felt safe to speak his mind. The facts are that officially the contract negotiations are still on going, but it seems now rather like a foregone conclusion.
