I'll probably get some "heat" for saying this:

This year was another super hot one at the BRIC. They need to change it to early June or late August, even September would be better.

This is Road America's biggest event and it could be bigger under better conditions.

    IMHO. :)

P.S. See ya'll when I get back from vacation.

    I agree.

We'll go whenever it is, but the heat, hills, lack of reasonable shade, access to you car make it a real trial to attend the event when it's so hot.

We left at noon on saturday and hung out at the pool the rest of the day and then sweated it out at the car show.

We also packed up and left early sunday to head back to Duluth, because we didn't want to fight the heat and then drive 7hrs home.

In 6 years of attending, I've come to the conclusion that the BRIC is pretty much the hotteset 4 day weekend of the year in WI.

September would be incredible....who do we call :)

this was the worst one I've been to... and it was hotter when I got home to NE! (111F today, ugh!).

we will also go whenever, but I think the struggle is with the spring/fall vintage weekends already on the calendar.

I'm getting better at beating the sun (no burn FTW!)... but dang, I was wiped out after a 14 hour drive home monday...

I agree. I'm glad they have the ChampCar race in September this year, hoping for more comfortable weather.

Actually, I didn't think it was too bad at the track on Saturday, we found some shade down by turn 3 and hung out there for a while. Once you got out in the sun it was pretty hot. I didn't think it was too bad until the concours, it was sweltering there. The wind seemed like it completely went away, probably couldn't get through all the trees down there. Thank goodness for full coolers of cold water and Gatorade.

Next year, a golf cart is a must. :)

Having the BRIC in September makes sense though, I can't imagine a lot of the cars there liked the heat, either. The crowd seemed smaller, I assume the heat kept a lot of people away.

The Impala did great for a big block, only spewed a little coolant when we parked it in Elkhart Lake.

Mike, have a great vacation! :)

the trip out is 10.5 or so, maybe 11, no more.

on the way back we have to drop my dad (its me, my dad, and younger brother) at Mitchell Field in Milwaukee so he can catch a flight to DC so he can speak at the ABA Forum on the Construction Industry, or the AGC Conference each year... I can't recall which it is, but it's always the tuesday after BRIC that he speaks.

then we had to take a longer-route home to pick up some parts for one of my brother's customers...

in all, long day of driving.

we just swapped every 2-3 hours... 500+miles per tank is nice.

It doesn't matter when it is....It could be scheduled for May 1st and it will be in the 90*s! We need Road America to put misting tents up...Oh yeah and pave the dirt road behind turn 6!!!!!!

the frustrating thing the past two years has been that the $75 infield parking pass gets you absolutely nothing. zip.

    total crock of poo.

we're taking a golf-cart next year... and hopefully we'll have a couple of nice "competition paddock" tags too :D:D:D

the dust was the worst part this year... and for pete's sake, get a more powerful broadcast tower for 88.5!!!!!

I thought infield was only $25?? Can't find my invioce...

Anyway, go there on thrus/friday and talk with the LFSC people. Say you want to park your Ferrari in their "area" and they'll give you a paddock pass for turn 5. I think you can also go to RA and say you are with Ferrari Club and get a paddock pass for turn 5...(tradtional area for FCA/LFSC), where you park after that is your business.

Actually they are pretty strict about parking. They won't just give you a pass for turn 5 if you have a Ferrari or ESPECIALLY if you just say you are with the Ferrari club. You will need an actual pass. My buddy in his blue Viper GTS was with Ken (yellow 355) and our group coming in the gates and they wouldn't let him in with us since he didn't have a pass no matter who he was saying he was with.

Ken (RKetex) can attest to the parking stuff. He was there in his yellow 355, is a paid FCA member, and I STILL had to get a pass from Mike Epifanio for him for them let him park at turn 5. And even with the pass they weren't going to let him in because they were saying they were full.

Parking is pretty insane there. You have to practically have "VIP" stamped on your forehead to get in.

Not to mention, they had guys on the radios talking once you were in. I doubt you could park "anywhere" after getting in. If your pass said Turn 5, you had better be parking in Turn 5. They seemed to be watching that stuff like crazy....

bill, thanks for the pass BTW. I felt like a criminal when they were asking me for all the credential to proof that I actually belong in there. Well, needless to say. It is nice once you are in!

Yeah, they were a lot more strict than they have been in the past about parking...probably because of all the extra race cars.

Anyway, I guess I just got lucky, cause I didn't have any trouble at all. I got through the gate by Skip Barber everyday with just my infield sticker and saying I was going to LFSC. Both times a talked with the lady gate gaurd and she didn't give me a second look....lucky I guess

P.S. Sorry we (wife & I) were such party poopers and didn't meet everybody. It turned out to be mroe of a working weeknd than we thought.

the problem with the LFSC is NOT HAVING A FERRARI!

and likely won't for a while. if business gets really good I should be sportinig an alfa next year though... which should get me in.

infield is $25/day IIRC. and its BS, you don't get ****e for it at this event. the problem is that the "infield" is really the "paddock" because of all the bloody cars.

I just need to actually bust my tail for 6 consecutive months and make enough to keep the wife happy and put a racecar in the garage... then it would all be solved.

The media tower is awsome! Cold drinks, cold air and you can watch the whole paddock out the windows, and they have on track cameras you can watch on TVs. I'm spoiled now!

Yep, press pass or be a VIP from Kohler or other sponsoring companies.

There were a couple guys from England there...In which I assume were from CAR magazine. They handed the media director a copy of the newest issue. I saw them tooling around in one of the Barber Vipers downtown Elkhart...now that would be a nice job perk! We need you to goto Wisconsin, cover the Bric, and rent yourself a Viper(which they probably did a report on and will probably be bashing in an issue soon to come) :)

If they drove a Viper to its limits, they have NO business bashing it. I drove one in a Skip Barber. Had the tail end kicked out nicely in the turns (I was giving her). Probably the best car I have ever driven right out of the box considering the power through the rev range, the stability of the suspension, the sound, the seat itself, etc.

GREAT car, and one I would LOVE to own if I didn't own a Ferrari first. The sound is the ONLY thing Ferrari has on a 1996 Viper GTS in my honest opinion. The newer ones are a tad bland in design, but an older body style?? Not bad at all......
