    Hi,

I am considering bringing a LHD F360 to the UK from Europe. Does anyone have any experience in doing this - and specifically what are the mods and costs of mods that might need to be done to get an MOT in the UK. Any other advice would be welcomed.

    Many thanks

    Hi,

All you will need to change are the headlamps and the speedo to read MPH instead of KPH.

    Regards,
    Phil.

    Bit more than that.

    1) If its a new car or less than 6 months old, VAT will have to be paid.

    2) If is older, you will have to make sure that the car has a Certificate of Conformity (You have to have that to register the car) from Ferrari UK-this can be anything up to £200-this is only applicable for cars that are under 10yrs old. Anythign over than that they do not care. Once you have that, relevant insurance, MOT (If the car is over 3yrs old), pop down to the local DVLA branch, present all of that with a cheque for around £110 (might be a little more, can't remember for sure) which covers 6 months and registering the new car and then within a few weeks you tax/registration will come through. Legally you are not allowed to drive it once it arrives in the UK until such time it is registered. But its a grey area regarding that-check you insurance first.

    3) LHD and Speedo amendment are a grey area again. Most MOT places are not worried, but you can get caught out if the DVLA decides to inspect the car. Your choice really.

    4) As a guide it will be around £500+ to bring a car back from Europe. We have budgeted for that in the past. Every EU country is different exporting cars. Italy can be very tricky to bring one back from.

    Cheers

I have thought along similar lines, so interested in seeing the reponses here. Where are you thinking of buying from and how are you sourcing it..don't worry I am not ready yet so won't be competing for the same car!

My 328 is LHD and has been in the UK since 2001, so 5 MOT's and no problem with the speedo which is in kph. I have headlights which go both ways (2 sets, not clever ones)

    Hedge,

Haven't decided yet - just considering the options and what is possible. There are enough F360s out there in Europe to get a good deal. My concern is local warranty and repairs etc.

.... but strictly speaking, shouldn't that be "VAT will have to have been paid in the EU" i.e. you don't have to pay VAT twice within the EU. If you buy in a lower VAT country than UK, you can pay the VAT where you buy and that may save a couple of percent.

Does UK still have that quaint "import duty" ? (I think it used to be 10% for cars - even from the EEC in the old days)
