I have to bring the car in next week for a major service. I asked them to keep all my old parts in a box. I will take a video of the belt service.

I think the distributors have to be set correctly. I was told if they are off, the car will not deliver the advertised power.

A Boxer weakpoint - The rear differential. What needs to be done here ?

(The Dinoplex has already been replaced with a MSD-6A)

"DistributorS?" - hopefully you have only one.......but, anyway, its not a big job but when mine was taken off, the outer bearing was completely frozen, and the seals had failed allowing oil into the case, and the weights were frozen as well - took about ten minutes to fix it, and what a difference........good luck w/ the service, and make sure your mech. is VERY VERY experienced w/ boxers, not just 70' s and 80's f-cars and lambo's etc......i mean a Boxer specialist......I cannot stress this enough.....learn from my mistakes......

The distributors are a very common problem on Boxers, from what I have learned is they fail easily and often even with low miles on them, it involves just more than cleaning the springs and taking them apart, you need a pro to run them on a machine and set the perfect size springs for the correct advance at various rpms to give smooth performance throughout the power band.

JRV has a friend that he reccomended to me to rebuild mine for a very reasonable price, let me know if you would like his contact info, it is available on his site also.

Wouldn't be concerned with the diff the early 365s had this issue, the weak point is the output shaft, if it breaks it breaks and its not a major deal to replace it as you just remove the transfercase cover/bell housing and pull it out.

i cannot agree more! i have made huge mistakes in not finding the correct boxer guy and when i am done w/ my bad experience, i will be $30k lighter in the wallet. this is the truth...do not ever let anyone but an experienced boxer person ever , ever work on your car!!!! it is not worth the heart ache!!!!!

The guy has in his shop a 275 GTB, 250 GTE, Daytona, 365 GTC/4, Ford Mustang (LOL) and other junk. He was the former head mechanic of F of H.

    Thanks for the tips.

I'm going to say this one more time, and then I'm done......there are many stories out there of dealerships screwing up Boxers......your mechanic could have a 250 gto in there for all i care......but if he's not a "boxer guy" you are asking for serious trouble.....these are extremely tempermental cars, and this is a big part of why the maitenance issues scare people away i.e. noone knows how to work on them.....I'll give you an example, if I were taking my car to Miller Motorcars, one of the oldest f-car dealers in the country, there is only one mech. there I would trust w/ my car, and I would be sure it is he who is performing the work (and he's not the head or former head mech.)........good luck

Couldnt have said it any better.

Also 250 gto's may cost a fortune but they are relativly simple.
