eddie izzard put you to sleep? maybe you dont understand the sophistication of a good joke, in which case i recommend jeff foxworthy? but seriously eddie izzard is great
Umm, I and most everyone I know think he's funny. So does Robin Williams. Taste in humor is like anything else though I guess. It's personal. George Carlin has the type of monotone voice that puts me to sleep.
Mitch Hedberg was a funny guy, he passed away a few months ago....Black comedians almost also suck IMO, all the say is f-this, f-that, mf, s and any other vulgar word you can think of....Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle are good but after seeing a little bit of The Kings of Comedy I was turned off.
Another guy as bad as Izzard is Dylan Moran. Maybe these guys have the same writer. Both of their deliveries are about as exciting as watching Bush speak. I don't think I'm missing much in the sophistication factor though. They just do not make me laugh! I did like the skit from Foxworthy talking about eatible unerwear. "Now if Victoria Secret made them in Biscits and gravy, I'd be eat'en large"!
I think Jimmy Carr is the best comedian to come around in a while. I laugh at his stuff all the time. From Canada, you guys have to check out Russel Peters.
I first saw Eddie Izzard on an HBO special called Dressed to Kill. One of THE funniest performances I have ever seen. If you get a chance to see it, I highly recommend it.
I guess we all have our own tastes. I'm British, and I really like British comedies like Are you Being Served, Red Dwarf, Monty Python and lots of others. As for British comedians, some are good like Eddie Izzard, however if you have seen his act it doesnt change all that much (not sure if others do or not). I used to like Dennis Miller before he got so political and became un-funny. I have always thought Benny Hill was la-a-ame. I'd rather kill myself with a toothpick than have to sit through a Foxworthy show. Carlin used to be sort of funny but now he's grasping to be controversial and his social commentary humor is way played out (*cough* stopped being funny after then 84th time *cough*). I guess comedians are like anyone else.... 20% of them really suck, 50% are Ok but dont stand out. 20% are pretty damn funny, and 10% bring the house down.
CMY: You posted a link to the mp3 off of Danes album about the Kool-aid guy. Theres a skit thats based off of that on his website: http://www.danecook.com/index.php?video=26. One of the funniest skits ever.
What about Rowan Atkinson? I've always enjoyed Mr Bean, but he was great in 'Not The 9 O'Clock News', which was a spoof on the stiff regular BBC news preceeding it. A British version of The John Stewart Show but years and years ago.
While we're on the topic of comedians. I forgot to mention, another one of my favorites is Lewis Black. He also did an HBO special recently which was absolutely hilarious.
OK. Here's another example of where I was going with this thread: Boothby Graffoe. Listening to him today on Laugh Break, his 'funniset' line was probably "They found saddam in a spider hole (Or 'spyder' hole for those Brit's that say 'TYRES').........Did they arrest the spider"? This is suposed to be funny? I still think that the Brit commedians still need a few lessons from uys like Sienfield, Gaffigan, Murphy, Hedberg and yes, Larry the Cable Guy!
