Alonso is a better driver than any of those three, but this season feels painfully similar to the Alesi-Berger years. Maybe we can say the Schumacher/Irvine years before Ferrari hit their stride.
Pretty good race but ALL of the drivers I support did terrible today Vettel: not a great start, got pushed wide by Webber (obviously), puncture. Great comeback from him but red mist in the second to last lap will get him a penalty I suppose. Kubica: Great start, but no pace at all and after his thing with alonso he retired. Don't think he could have managed more than 5th... Schumacher: Average start, did better in the last 5 starts or so. Disappointing Q3 was his own fault for rubbish start position. Missed a few opportunities, lacks aggression he used to have. Couldn't stop Vettel from overtaking him, part of which is because his lack of aggression. Can't help but think that his tires where expiring (he seems to have a fairly large problem with that) which is why he defended rather rubbish if you look at what sutil produced. Rosberg in 3rd (ok, with some luck) showed that Schumacher really needs to step it up. Or develop a car for next year and win some races then. Alonso: poor start, then mansell (without moustache) gave him a stupid penalty. Kubica was already retiring with differential problems, a problem like this can easily cause your car to run very wide, which could have caused the whole thing in the first place. Massa: not sure who or what, but he and alonso collided on lap 1 causing Massa's flat in the first place. Race ruined after that. Massa also needs to be more aggresive because seeing him stuck behind everyone playing follow the leader gets very annoying, frankly. Atleast Alonso made some effort (not succeeding but at least looking spectacular!). --- Hamilton: According to Brundle, he hit vettel on the right rear at the start of the race. Minimal damage to his wing of course, whilst his main championship rival got a puncture. No penalties of course, lucky once again. Didn't see the replay myself though. Brundle did say that the wings are now designed so they don't cut the tire, but to be frank about it, a 3mm wide straight piece of carbon fibre, hitting a tire at 160mph is going to cause a puncture 9/10 times.
I think the reality is that Red Bull is forced to kiss its young star's arse because so many teams want to poach him. OTOH, Webber is having a great run at the twilight of his career, so they probably feel less motivated to cater to his whims. I'd bet that he pushed Horner to take the front wing from Mark. Karma is a female dog though, as they say. IMO, it shows you what kind of prima donna Vettel is. I've grown to dislike him this season...based on how he responds to pressure, I'm not so certain the bloom isn't falling off this rose a bit.
spot on ! I liked Vettel at first but he goes to water when all doesn't run his way I liked the way Mark avoided the detail of the start, never mentioned Vettel trying to squeeze him into the wall
Remember when Massa was leading the WDC? Has he scored a point since???? Three man race for the WDC, with Vettel needing some misfortune for the others to have a shot. Of course we still have a lot of racing to do, but by this point there's a pretty clear picture of how this thing is shaping up.
It's because they've gone back to the all italian thing. Like all Latin people, they spend way to much time eating good food and having siesta's, and way to little time actually working. They need to kick domenically out, put someone in charge with balls the size of coconuts, let him decide who and what to hire and get back up front again. If they can have a Ross Brawn again, and perhaps Adrian Newey with his team, a driver with fire like Kubica and a good second (Rosberg, or preferably Kobayashi) they'll be unstopable. Until then, they'll spend to much time giving out press conferences and being Italian and it'll never work.
I do think that Alonso is one of the two best drivers in F1 today. I don't care if he is complaining. I've supported Ferrari in the past-I will support them in the future. But someone up there needs to realize that changes are needed and Alonso alone is not enough. He needs a compatative car and a team around him that makes the right decisions at the right time. They stopped the development of F60 last year in the mid-season and the F10 is still not even close to compete for the win. The whole "let's create an all italian team" idea sounds a bit ridiculous nowadays. Ferrari were unbeatable when they had a german driver, french team principal and an english technical director. Look at Redbull with Vettel, Webber and Newey!! Get the right people if you won results!!! And I am sorry--I am not a Massa hater-I like the guy --but he is not what he used to be( I don't know if it is due to the last year's crash) . Why did they decide to extend his contarct?! Again--poor management.
Agree on all points!!!! The decision-making on the team is HORRIBLE! Alonso probably thought he was headed to the outfit run by Todt and Brawn with newer faces. He's now pissed because he realizes Mickey Mouse and Goofy are calling the shots. As much as he's complaining and having conniptions each race, I can sympathize with his frustrations
BBC commentator: "Alonso is too angry to speak to anyone" Poor, poor Alonso. Can't wait till Scuderia P1 watches this one go down. >8^) ER
