OK, everyone is complaining, but so far, I have not seen a list of Good AND AVAILABLE folks to do an F1 broadcast on TV, so I ask you again, who can do a better job, who is knowledgeable about TODAY'S F1 - that is available ?

I bet John Madden can do a better job than those guys on CBS.

If I were hiring them I would do the research. I just know bad when I hear/see it and Sheheen and Daly are bad. C'mon; how much F1 would you watch if those guys were on SPEEDTV?

John Bisignano (sp?) would be a good start but there are tons of great motorsports announcers trapped in relative anonymity. All I want is someone who adds more to the broadcast than what the viewer already sees. Sheheen and Daly are masters of the obvious.

We are talking TV here: they don't know HOW to research their crew, besides, if they did any kind of research, their research would show the current crew is just fine.

I am not too surprised that their can be 100 responses to how bad the current crew is, and almost NO better ideas..

It's been a while since he was in F1, and his sour attitude during his last few races foreshadowed his departure.

Last I saw of him he was doing mud racing trucks in N Wisconsin or similar..

You must either work for CBS ;-) or have a low expectation for what an F1 broadcast should consist of. My point was that if I were doing the hiring I would do the research to find the people who could do a better job than Sheheen and Daly. There are hundreds of better qualified announcers. They do live track announcing today or have driving experience of their own. Bob Varsha, David Hobbs and Steve Matchett aren't the only people who can do race commentating in an entertaining and informative fashion. I would agree that they have set the benchmark at a high level but they aren't the only alternative.

Indy 500 did not fair much better this year. Rusty Wallace doing the color on ABC ??????? Are you f*$&% kidding me ? WTF ? What possible insight can this guy have on an open-wheel series, of any kind ? Just because he wrestled a 3000 lb Taurus around the place ?? Bobby Unser, et al., where are you ?

Agreed, the US networks still are showing little maturity in finding appropirate commentators.

    Just my 2 cents.

Where you came up with THAT synopsys of what I said is way beyond me...

I worked in the press for 12 years, I know how they operate, especially when it comes to tier 3 sports. If it isn't the NFL, NBA, PGA, or MLB, and then nascar, and if it's not an 'american' sport (F1 is not, neither is soccer) it's a tier 3 sport. We don't have to like it but that is how the executive brass view it. Whoever buys ad time dictates what is on TV, why on earth do you think silly paint-ball games are on ?

The folks that actually HIRE the crew for a tier-3 sport are not themselves knowledgeable about it: they are told by the producer to give him a pot to pick from, and that's what they do, for the most part.

As I said, there is around 100 postings on the other thread complaining about how bad the coverage is, but nobody suggesting who is better - AND available - including me. I don't know who to get, that is why I was asking YOU folks.

Gheeesh......... shoot the messenger will ya........
