SpeedTV has Friday practice, and Saturday qualifying at 8AM both days. I believe CBS is doing the tape delay of the race. What time is the Sunday race broadcast on CBS? Thanks.
Oh boy. You won't find me on FChat (or the internet) next Sunday until that tape delayed has aired. I won't answer the phone and talk to nobody outside the house.
Are there any websites (illegal) that will have a live video stream from another broadcaster like ITV? I have friend that wants to know.
You mean you don't enjoy hearing the announcers explain every last obvious aspect of F1, as if a bunch of sea turtles are tuning in for the first time?? In your best Derek Daly voice: "These drivers, pilots, really, grrrrip the wheel in the cockpit which, in turn, helps them maintain control of their racing cars and also change direction! These cars, you may have noticed, have wing-like devices in front and back. These are to produce downforce--they literally suck the car to the ground. Much like the wings on an airplane create lift, and lift the plane into the air. If you were to remove those wings and turn them upside down, that is what you have on these amazing racing cars. These drivers, when they go through the corners, experience g-forces in excess of 3 or 4 times the force of gravity...." I think we all know how the song goes
I can't help it, I like Derek Daily. It is more his sidekicks from CBS I'm worried about. The ones who repeat every driver name with complete first and last name and use the full names for the cars and teams just to kill some airtime: "There is the seven times world champion Michael Schumacher from Germany in his Italian Ferrari leaving the pitlane. Right behind him is the current world champion Fernando Alonso from Spain in his French Renault F1 race car powered by Renault." I met Derek once and he was the nicest guy you can imagine. It was at a VIP event in Indy. We were at a Champ Car factory where he gave a speech. He also signed my 1/18 CART model I brought along. Somehow I didn't muster the courage to ask him about his air flip in Monaco. One of the most frightening things I've ever seen on TV. I remember how shocked I was all day long and couldn't believe he (and everybody else) survived that unhurt.
I don't really have a problem with Daly, I just get tired of the networks treating the viewers like they fell off the turnip truck. Just because a Formula 1 race is on the networks, how many of the viewers really need to be broadcast to like they're 4 years old?
Yes and no (and bear with me, I'm just playing devil's advocat, I basically agree with you): Since it is on a general network and not on Speed, which caters to gearheads, they think they have to sell it/explain it to the general public. And in a sense that's the whole purpose of having these few races not on Speed so F1 finds a wider audience of folks who never heard of Speed TV or F1. It is still annoying, no question. As usual I'm just afraid the local affiliate of CBS decides that the "5k walk for <insert charity here>" is more compelling and drops it altogether. Or some high rise fire in the South will take its place. Obama slipping on a banana peel, a crash on the Ike, local weather warnings will bleep it out, the list is endless.
I know what you mean, but we were talking about this at work last year and did some math. I believe the % of homes in this country with cable/sat access is around 55%. And of the remaining homes, it's hard to believe there are many F1 fans-in-waiting laying in the weeds. Even so, how many "accidental" viewers do you suppose they actually get? And of those, how many are going to be so far out of touch with racing that the remedial nature of the broadcast will make them feel enlightened? And then become F1 fans? I'll help out--NONE. TV doesn't create racing fans. But if they do insist on making it interesting to the uninitiated, then do some sidebar pieces. Like they used to do for the Indy 500 back in the 70s and 80s. Don't keep using the same, tired references like upside-down airplane wings, etc. And PLEASE keep Danny Sullivan off the air.
I'd still love to see somebody taking a racecar and drive it at 200mph upside down in a tube. Just to proove it once and for all. BAR Honda strikes me as crazy enough given last year's Bonneville attempt. Maybe they try one day.
It has a dry sump oil system, so I'm sure something could be done to let it go at those angles. Maybe it's something with the fuel entering the combustion chamber. I know EFI in off-road trucks let them go into rock cliffs at a steeper angle than their carb versions. Fuel tank pumps might be a problem, too. Any fluid containers, etc. Give an F1 team a month and they can do it.
lookatdis lookatdis lookatdis lookatdis lookatdis hang onto your hallyhocks ? I thought CBS did a decent job last year
apart from the child like commentary why does CBS not show the whole race...as in have a commercial and not skip 3-4 laps because of it...its already a re-airing why not broadcast the race in it entirety?
