Too bad your dad didn’t take Brock up on that offer. I accepted Brock's invitation and raced in the original Cannonball and that experience has provided a lifetime of great memories. You’re going to enjoy both the Sunday Driver and Cannonball books. In them Brock provided me with bragging rights evidence that I actually passed Dan Gurney like he was standing still and then led him through 2 states.

Thats amazing and I absolutly am looking forward to reading them! What did you run?

He did take him up on it, added a second (F150) gas tank and a CB radio in the Pantera while enlisting his best friend. That year supposidly it moved from all out race accross the country to a group drive to race tracks with laps. When he heard about this he backed out as he was only interested in the original cannonball.

Too kind. I look forward to sharing this with my father and I’m extremely appreciative. Merry Christmas indeed.

My father unfortunately is getting up there in age and he is not able to drive the Pantera which is why it has been passed on.

We ran the infamous drive-away caddy, finishing 3rd in 36:56, losing 2nd by just 9 minutes despite 6 police stops including 2 at gunpoint. Here is a the story I posted in the racing section a few years back. This post and the ones that preceded and followed it detail the background for the race and some stuff you won’t find in the book (for obvious reasons).

This morning I had lost my Christmas spirit altogether....been a lot to deal with this season...

One of the things has been the moving and sorting of a lifetime of BOOKS and also a lifetime of LPs, and I realize, for sure, they are heavy!
So totally get the mindset to "pass things on" and after a hard day, here I find this thread!!!!

As Texas sinks into sub freezing temps, that Cannonball might make a good re read.

Salute to the adventurers, the dreamers, the drivers.........if none of this had made it to print in those years, then I doubt I would have dreamed and realized the crazy things I have done myself.

Happy Holidays everybody, slow down, look both ways....be safe!!!
    :D :D :D
