Broke mirror fix

I was backing into my garage and hit the pass side mirror and broke it off. I know. I know. Anyway after removing mirror and marking and pushing out pins from plug I bought a stainless nut the same size as mirror nut. Threaded nut on carful and tighten it slowly trying to use the nut as a thread cutter. I managed to cut two compleat threads. I cut the spring by about quarter inch checked the nut which now had three and a half threads instead of four originally reinstalled and everything works and morrow still cams foreword and backward. 1500 saved if pass side and 4500 saved if drivers side. I am now not quite so upset. Grant
