Took the manuals and tool kit out for inspection, went to put them back and the strap that holds them in place snapped at the hole, obviously dried out and brittle. I used the second strap by hand-drilling in a loop hole for now (why is there a second strap?) but I want to replace it with fresh leather, is it a Ferrari part or available elsewhere? I will be treating all leather, including manual/tool cases and straps, with conditioner from this point forward..

I don't think the straps are really leather. You can buy them off a parts house (ricambi). I had some real leather ones made, but they don't exactly match the color of the manual. Much nicer though!

Thanks, would like to keep them matching but the darn thing snapped like a Ritz cracker.. gotta be almost 4mm thick but totally dried out. Wonder what the manuel cases are made of?

You should be happy, as that's the cheapest part you will ever break!

That belt is known to snap. Mine is holding on with two remaining treads... Pathetic quality

As many have said, it's not real leather, and even a brand new part feels brittle. I removed all these 'leather' straps from the car (they are either bolted on or riveted - the latter need to be drilled out) and now I carry the manuals in electronic form on my iphone/ipad. On advice from Aldous I also bought generic (non-Ferrari branded) tools to match those in the toolkit and carry these around instead, in a smaller tool pouch. Result: a good amount of space in the boot saved (I travel around a fair bit on holiday with my car, so this matters) and come resale time I will put everything back together and it will look as new.

You're not the first one to do this. I did it too, those original straps were pathetic in terms of durability.

So, I had my mechanic take them and the measurements to a leather guy. They made new, genuine leather straps which look perfect and won't break down the same way.

For those who replaced the original straps with leather ones, how did to you fasten the new ones to the car? I believe the originals are riveted to the car.

I'll find a "leather guy" and have a new one made in real leather and matched to the color. Anyone know why there are two straps, one with holes and one without? My "one without" now has one hole in it.. :D

Good luck on the color match. I put them back in with rivets. The oem ones are some weird size I couldn't figure out... And if you slightly widen the holes on the little metal clips (top and behind) you can use a standard size. Leaving the stuff out of the car is really the best, to avoid the hassle and gain a bit of storage space.

Search the site . There is a member here who sells straps that look OEM but are much better at a fraction of the cost.

The straps are crap covered cardboard, Thank you Italian leather Ferrari.
Also, the OEM replacements are not inexpensive. Cheap (quality) yes!!!
Get a good leather shop make a real set. Don't use the OEM buckles, they are crap too.

They put the new straps in with pop rivets, same as the OEM procedure.
