I noticed my wife's windshield broke this morning. I'm not sure if she hit a rock driving, and then it cracked more when she came up the driveway (steep entrance). Or if some kids could have broke it by hitting it with something in the driveway last night (just kids looking to cause trouble?)

She said she heard a rock hit the windshield on the way home but didn't notice any damage (it was raining). But I also heard some kids out messing around late last night as I went to bed.

Does it make any difference how I report this when I call my insurance company?

I don't want the auto insurance guys telling me its a claim for my home-owners policy because it could have been kids who broke it in my driveway (and thus not something that happened while driving).

I've heard Florida has laws that regulate this issue with Auto insurance and deductables... but I don't know much about it? I've got to give my insurance a call later today, but I thought I'd ask you guys first. Thanks

Since you are in FL, your auto insurance company has to fix it for free--no deductible and no raise on your policy premiums. Call them and tell them when you woke up this morning it was cracked. There are hundreds of mobile window repair technicians on the road in Florida, I bet by this time tomorrow it will be fixed and they'll even come to your home or office to do it.

    We've been thru a couple of windshields, it's a pretty low-hassle thing.

Watch out who you use. On our insurance companies recommendation ,we had Safelite come to our house to do a Suburban that was a month old. Within a year we had rust along the top of the cab where they had scratched the hell out of the paint in the adhesive bedding area, and not treated it correctly. The truck had to go to a body shop to be repaired correctly because the rust was clear through in some spots. Your insurance company cant dictate who you use, so find out who does the best quality and use them. Dont base your decision on convenience.

    Really, how come?

    $200 deductible here for that.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

My neighbor found a bunch of golf balls in his yard, but we don't live near a golf course. So we are thinking maybe some idiot was randomly hitting golf balls into our neighborhood last night.

Dealing with the insurance company, and glass company was very easy.
