Hello all. My main temperature control dial broke a while back and I'm told the only way to fix it is to replace the entire temp control unit. Seems like the type of thing I should be able to pull the knob off and stick a new one on. Wondering if anyone has had this problem and solved it without a complete replace of the larger unit.

    Pic attached.

I hate to be the guy delivering the bad news but yes, those dials are not sold separately and they are the worst grade of plastic. A high % are broken when we refinish those panels. We repair many of them. We are considering having them reproduced. I've discussed this with a long time friend who has an injection molding business.

Depending on the break, assuming tabs are gone, just use a dab of silicone on the stem to hold the dial on. Works well. Don't glue it because you need to be able to get it off.

Thanks you both. I saw the part on Ricambi for like $1500. Maybe I have to just give in, and at least I'll get nice clean buttons/knobs. I don't even know how it broke - one day it was just like that. I dive my car 95% by myself.

Mike - email me a picture of the dial - I'll have a look. Please email, not PM as I don't manage my PM's well. I believe we have a spare (also broken) one here but maybe it's better.

When I did my sticky repair, I had to completely take the controls apart. You can not pull the knobs off, as there is a retaining clip on the back side. A big PIA! Go slow and you can figure it out.
