Looking at my 79 308 motor today and found a broken bolt sticking out of the belt cover. This bolt has now broken for the second time for no reason I can tell. The bolt just seems to hold the cover on and shouldn't be very stressed. It broke around 2 threads from the shoulder. Anyone have any experience with this before? Thanks. Bob

    Bob,

That bolt is steel, or should be, and the cover is aluminum. Can't imagine that you could have torqued the bolt down enough to have damaged it without first cracking the cover. You might want to take it to a place that sells fasteners/bolts (a good industrial type place, not Home Dumpo) and ask them to look at it. They might be able to tell if the bolt was defective, over torqued, corroded, etc.

    Just a thought.

Thanks, I thought it might be that , but it happened twice with OEM bolts.
