1977 308 GTB: Anyone got a suggestion for a broken gas nipple on my drivers side tank? While installing new gas lines the nipple broke. I think it had been repaired with some sealant prior to me (suspicious). It's the nipple on top of the tank, drivers side, that leads to the charcoal canister. I do not believe there is enough of the tube sticking up left to get a clamp on. Thanks.

I contemplated that because I know JB Weld fairly well and believe that is what the previous owner did. I am concerned that it will not hold something that has sheared off completely, cracked maybe but not really enough surface area to hold the two pieces together. Any other thoughts, yikes.

Well, you could JB Weld it shut! (vent hose? We don't need no stinkin' vent hose!)

Funny, I had the same thing happen to me (77 308 GTB) recently on my passenger-side tank.

I just stuck a "hard straw" of sorts between the broken nipple and the tank to secure it once again.

    Holds so far..

Got a photo or description of your hard straw, or is that something I gotta figure out? Did you JB Weld back in? Help...

Have a machine shop make a nipple with one end small enough to fit the hole in the tank. This should be about 3/8 to 1/2" long then put it on with J-B weld or Devcon etc. I could cut one out on my lathe in 20min. and I am not that fast so it should not cost much.

People here are always talking about Ferraris burning and now you want to jury rig a fix on a gas tank????

Fix it right or go back to a bicycle.

Is gas brazing the correct technology?

I don't think a 6010 welding rod would be gentle enough.........

The tank is aluminum as is the nipple. It is also thin material. It will take a good guy with a TIG welder.

    Tex & Brian-
I agree, I'm not the best jury rigger anyways. Degree of difficulty in pulling tank? Or leads in Northwest for this type of repair? Thanks.

    Pulling the tank is easy!

After the fender it's two bands of flat strap holding it in.....driver's side has the gas gauge though..

The big pipe in the bottom connecting RH and LH has a honkin' drain plug so you can save the gas for your lawn mower or something.....

Usually found in a boat yard, making Tuna Towers for Bertrams.....;)
