What kind of questions or problems should one ask about if he's to see a surgeon about a broken nose? And what kind of down time can be expected from a surgery? Thanks.
Commonly, the part of a nose which is broken is merely the anterior septal cartilage. This is merely repositioned and the nose is secured and bandaged exteriorly. No down time here. If the fracture is posterior to this cartilage, it would involve bones; and here the complexity of the disruption determines what will need to be done. The down time could still be minimal. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
I had a set of X-rays and the bone {little sword shaped bone at the top} is broken about half way down and the broken piece is lower and sits to the left. I was just wondering if I should ask about cartilage damage, as I hear this can't be seen on the X-rays and it can be more difficult to repair than the bone because it's harder to "pop" back into place. Interestingly enough there wasn't any pain at all and no blood flowed.
I wasn't jamming my finger up my nose. Thanks for the reply! I think the break is fairly bad. On the X-rays there seemed to be quite a gap between the bone fragments. Considering the bones are supposed to be attached. And when it happened, my nose looked very crooked. 30 hours later there is just a bend in the nose {as the swelling at the fracture gose down?} but I can feel the break. But both eyes are still swelling.
The third attempted mugging of the year. I was hit in the face with a steel bar. The joke's on him though. I may be banged up but he has a broken left arm at the elbow, a broken right arm at the shoulder and 3 cracked ribs and he's 800 bucks lighter.
LOL...!!! It's a line from an old song... Sorry... Couldn't help myself... Sorry you got mugged; all the people who ever mugged me were kind (physically, at least)... Glad you gave him some of his own medicine... Good luck with your shnoz...
This was the first time I was ever struck in the face with any kind of force, so I guess I'm alright with that streak being broken. I wish I was holding my asp or picked up his weapon, boy oh boy would he have been sorry! Well... even more so.
i've never had a broken nose, but getting hit in the nose or just getting hit in the face is not pleasant... It sounds like he really gave your nose a good whack... How long before you got your bearings and turned the tables on this dude...?
I had that done to me when I snapped it after diving head firts into thoe "somewhat" shallow end . Ironically, it was during my Lifeguard re-certification course while doing a situaiton which involved me playing a lifeguard pulling out a drowning victim! I just had a splint bandaged to my nose for about a month. No biggies.
Neil, looks like from your profile your a fellow Hockey Player. I remember about 25 years ago playing in Canada......took a stick in the nose, came back to the bench.............the trainer looked at me, grabbed a handfull of snow from the ice, stuck it on my nose and then jammed a Q-Tip up each nostril. A Nova Scotia guy with a broken nose, you guys should be used to that!! Good Luck. chas
I remember being hit but there wasn't any pain and there wasn't any blood so it was pretty much right here right now.
That's awesome. Sorry about your nose but I think it's great you at least left him for the worse and got enough cash to pay for your insurance deductible.
Wow you're one lucky guy. He could have really done some damage to you. I can't imagine getting hit with a steel anything. As posted above I'm guessing that the hockey helped you out in that regard. So, if you didn't get his weapon from him, how'd you do all that damage? Did you have your hockey stick with you? Also how do you know which bones of his you broke? Anyway glad to hear youre ok. You need to either move or start hanging out someplace else. Third time might have been the charm but you might be pressing your luck.
3 years ago I took a puck right on the beak...Busted nose, deap cuts, long and short, drove myself to the hospital, late night plastic/reset and I'm fine. The only issue is every morning I now have a "stuffy" nose. Shower, blow it and I'm fine...I know a bunch of people who were not so lucky, they had to have it rebroken later to reset. Best. Pots (now wearing a 1/4 shield)
If he caught me again with the bar, it could have been lights out. It could have been lights out the first time but I really didn't feel anything. I remember just being "brushed" in the face, almost like a pillow was pulled across my face. And no, I really didn't think about anything, just "fight this guy". I've been in a few fights before and I'm not much of a puncher. I'm more of a "grab your head and twist" sort of a fellow. I know what a broken elbow and a broken shoulder looks like and the way I bent both of them back, I am quite sure both joints are done for. As for the ribs, I stomped on his right side with as much force as I had and I was wearing steel toed and steel plated {bottom} shoes from work, so I can say for sure they are badly damaged if not broken. And when we went down he jabbed me in the face a few times and for some reason rolled on his stomach. That was his third mistake. I had his left hand in mind and I grabbed his hand with my other hand and placed my knees on his tricept and pulled as hard and fast as I could. It almost sounded like a popcicle stick breaking and a bunch of clicks. I let it go and the forarm fell straight to the ground. He was whining and I grabbed his right forarm and landed on his back and pulled up as hard as I could and this time I leaned ahead as to lock the elbow {didn't work}. And when I pulled back, his arm bent at the elbow and I grabbed his bicept and tricept and pulled as hard and as fast as I could. And his arm {at the shoulder} came up over his head. I'm a fairly strong guy and this isn't the first time I twisted the hell out of someone. Like I said, I'm not much of a puncher but that doesn't mean I'm at a disadvantage. I was "attacked" by a tiny guy at the ATM about a year ago and I held him untill the Police arrived. I was held at knife point about 10 weeks ago while in my Porsche and the guy was on a motorcycle! WTF!? This is the 4th attempted robbery and the first time any damage was done to me. I also grabbed the wallet from the first guy who ever attempted a mugging of me. The events almost qualify as a small business if I register it correctly!
Sounds like your attacker COULD be restored, but in the standard line of Ferrari thinking, better to just part him out!
