If you have an early 355 6-speed, or a 348 with the cast iron clutch release bearing, there were pretty limited options in terms of an upgrade. Now, thanks to the beauty of Hill Engineering the upgraded flange (168589) doesn't have to be purchased at Ferrari-crazy prices!

This flange + the Hill Engineering bearing will fit 348's and early 355 (6-speed), and provide a much longer-lasting solution for your clutch. Pre-fitted with seals, it's also a wee bit lighter than the iron version.

Will this setup improve your lap times around Fiorano? No. Will it keep your 348/355 on the road longer and likely never need to be replaced again? Yes.

    Giddy-up!

Should I fit one as preventitive if my engine is going to be out?

It really depends on whether you were planning to go into the clutch anyway. The engine-out is not a prerequisite for this service whatsoever, and it can be done at any time 'in situ'.

If you're breaking into the clutch pumpkin for a new disk and such, it might make sense because the incremental labor isn't too great.

How's that for a wishy washy answer? :)
