Not sure if this has been posted, but I am pretty excited about this.

Martin Brundle will become BBC's new lead Formula 1 commentator this year, it has been announced, following a shake-up of the coverage plans for 2011.

Just hours after former commentator Jonathan Legard announced he would no longer be a part of the BBC team for this year, the corporation confirmed that Brundle would be stepping up to the lead role - with David Coulthard joining him as a co-commentator.

Not sure if DC is the right choice, but anyone is better then Jonathan Legard, that guy used to seriously spoil the BBC coverage for me.

Not really sure why you don't likr the guy, I thought the BBC coverage was fantastic, with the exception of Eddie Jordan but I could deal with him.

Where to start?: the dreary, almost monotone, commentating; a failure to convey any excitement about the sport he was commentating on; not knowing when to be quiet and just let the action speak for itself; interrupting Brundle whilst he was in the middle of saying something you were really interested in hearing about, take your pick!.

One of his biggest problems was that he lacked personality. As a commentator he was a bit of a non entity, like a standard, manufactured BBC commentator taken from a production line and simply programmed for F1. Change the programme from F1 to football and the result would be much the same.

Don't get Me wrong, I know that he is really interested in the sport but he just doesn't convey it well.

Your 100% right with all your points. His lack of personality and his apparent lack of any sense of humour are his biggest issues. But you also forgot some of his most annoy traits, for me at least.

Firstly - I became very tired of his repetitive bashing of drivers he clearly showed he did not like, especially Schumacher. But what was worse was his constant and biased over the top ass kissing of Hamilton and Button at every possible opportunity. It was like listening to a typical blinded "fanboy" from an F1 forum (I'm sure we all know a few of them).

Secondly - He seemed to never work out during his time commentating on TV that the viewers watching the race at home could also see what was happening!! We did not need being told lap after lap "Hamilton 2008 world champion, up the hill, down the hill, round the corner, down the straight" while his car was on the screen.

I have to say in Legards defence, when it comes to a Lewis Hamilton ass kissing contest, he's a rank amateur compared to the old: "ITV F1 Lewis Hamilton love in show"!.

I still remember one race ITV were showing where Hamilton was having a bad day, well down the field and the commentary went something along the lines of:

"Fernando Alonso is in the lead, 2.8 seconds ahead of Räikkönen in second followed by Nick Hiedfeld in third, but far more importantly, Lewis Hamilton is holding his own in fourteenth place, not really gaining on those ahead of him but not losing any places either!".

    I kid you not!.

Living in the states, I have to download the BBC coverage, and I enjoy watching DC, Brundle and even Jordan.
I feel like they have way more interaction with the other drivers and high-ups when they do the pit walk and interviews.

Way more than the speed channel trio.
the only person I liked on SPEED channel was Windsor, and He's gone.

Judging from the comments over on Piston Heads Gassing Station The Pie & Piston it would seem Vicky Butler-Henderson would be way more entertaining than the brown mouse!!!

It appears that Natalie at least brushes her teeth, so that's a huge win over VBH.

The biggest problem I have with VBH is that for some reason, she seems to feel she has to fit a dirty laugh in at the slightest thing, but it come across as being so fake.

Now there's a bloke who could get excited about paint drying! (and make it sound exciting too!).
