I wonder if it leaks in traditional quantities.

A single doing 4500 rpm at 70. My butt hurts and hands tingle just thinking about it.

My first bike was a 1955 650ccc BSA Road Rocket. It taught me about Lucas Electronics. My ex-wife may still have it in WY.

I'm trying to figure out why they would make a 650cc single? There are so many good twins out there that don't weigh or cost much more. I'm all for choice but for retro parallel twins it's hard to look past Triumphs or Guzzi (V), or even the Kawasaki W. Maybe a big market internationally but I've never seen a lot of retro singles in my travels. It's not art like a Janus but not going to be roadworthy either. I don't get it.

Dunno. KTM sells a 690 single.
There's a BSA 441 Victor in my past. Just wanted to experience a big (relatively) single.

    Great looking bike, too.

KTM has a balancer shaft. Big singles are great off roaders or in the Manx's case race bikes but old time big single road bikes were terrible.

Dreamed up by either someone not old enough to be there or to have ridden them in the day. And also has an overly romanticized vision of history

Kind of like someone who wants a 68 muscle car with drum brakes, skinny wheels and skinny bias ply tires.

Throw in a vinyl bench seat with no seat belts.

Its a wonder our species survived.

    They're not building the 690 Duke anymore...only trail/dual purpose
If I'm ever again living in a place where a motorcycle makes sense...and S FL absolutely does not...I'd look for one of these, or the 790 Duke twin...which they're building again.
The limiting factor is getting my soon to be 70 year old hips to swing over that seat...SMDH.

I am not far behind you. All those dual sport types have very high static seat heights because of the suspension travel. Can be a real limiting factor.

I am afraid I would want to do what the bike can do just because it is so fun but I'd be in all kinds of trouble for that and besides, I don't bounce very well anymore.

In that period cars were in a great style situation but I would argue motorcycles were at their pinnacle style wise.

    I agree. Norton Commando. Bonnie’s, numerous H/D’s.

I love my BMW GS but nobody is going to look back and say it was a beautiful machine.

I was at a Triumph dealer a few weeks ago, and I have to say, I really love that Bonneville !! I was never a fan of the parallel twins, with that being said, after getting my leg around that machine, Im thinking that will be my next bike. I have a friend, hes 86 and still riding a mid size Harley, It gives me hope that I will be riding well into my 80s as well.
