This past weekend I was working on the car and had it on/running but when I turned the car off (car was running less than 5 minutes) I could hear bubbling sounds coming from the engine bay, particularly inside the cooling tank container. Does anyone know why this is happening or what I can do to eliminate it (or is it normal)?

    Thanks for the help!

Bleed the air from the system. If the problem is still there then change the Rad cap.

Hopefully it's not a head gasket. I'd want to eliminate that possibility. If it's bubbling that soon after start up and it's the head gasket it is leaking pretty bad and could burn a groove in the cylinder head or sleeve if you keep running it.

To check get a leakdown tester and pressurize the cylinders to 100 psi (some leakdown testers don't pressurize that high) and listen for bubbling ... hope it's something simple. If you don't care about reading actual leakdown numbers you can always just pressurize the cylinders with shop air and listen for bubbling ... need the right adapters to screw into the plug holes.

good luck with it and again ... really hope that's not it.

    cheers

Try this first. Fully warm it up though, heater valves open also. If the expansion tank level gets too low, you can hear what you described.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll try to bleed the system first. Does anyone have a link showing how to do this correctly?

My 308 has always made a few bubbling sounds right after engine-off. Never had a problem. I think this is in the catagory of odd but normal Ferrari sounds. Bleed system to be sure and enjoy life. Now if my 69 Moto Guzzi makes bubbling sounds.....
