I disagree with you. It was a great performance by Massa in F1 standards. Not a Schumacher four pit stops and win the race performance, but nevertheless, a great drive. As for the comment about bias, it seems quite obvious there is a substantial bias coming from those that do not appreciate Massa, so your comment is kinda like the pot calling the kettle black. Its not going to work. A lot of fans came out of the woodwork after watching Massa yesterday and praised his effort. More so than those that continue to try to minimize Massa's ability. Alonso drove a good race, he did not spin out this event as he has frequently recently, but what did he do that would give him a better drive than Massa? Nothing. He kept his slower car on the track keeping Raikkonen behind him. On a track that is supposedly as difficult to pass as Monaco. Yet when Raikkonen got in front of Alonso, he left Alonso behind. It appears to me all that Alonso did was keep his car on the track the entire race, and submit to a good pit strategy. He came in fourth due to Massa and Hamilton having bad luck. So how does that compare to the first turn pass of Massa's? Or the lead that Massa built that not even Hamilton could reel in. No one the entire race made any exciting moves except Massa. No one. So its easy to say he did a much better job than any other driver, because it is just fact. I would give Glock a close second. I do think Massa is very good, he is a talent that is developing virtually in evey race. I have no idea if he will continue to develop and be an Alonso or Raikkonen, could be, or he could just become stagnant. He is third in the points, if not for his misfortune Sunday, he would be leading in WDC points. Yes, he has made mistakes, so have Raikkonen, Hamilton, Alonso, Kovalainen, Kubica, etc. But he is extrememly fast, qualifies well, and represents Ferrari in positive manner. I still can find no logic or fact in this constant dissing of Massa.
Your right Ron. Leave it at that as it does not matter to a half dozen here who would say Massa was lucky or whatever even if he were to win the WDC this year. It like talking to a wall. Forget it man.
Massa and Kovalainen both have top of the grid cars. Glock on the other hand, doesn't. I think Timo showed why he's back in F1 yesterday, and put on a master class. For him to do what he did in a Toyota, and them immediately securing his seat for next year, means that they realize how awesome of a job he did. My driver of the day was Timo Glock.
Who is saying he is lucky!! quite the opposite IMO. What is being said, is a good race by Massa does not hail him the new WDC, although it is not inconcievable. Massa had a great start then held his position wringing the neck out of his car playing tit for tat with LH trying to reel him in.!..We know the rest a cruel blow no doubt. What is escaping the attention is: Glocks great drive and well deserved. HK for picking up the best points available for his team whilst LH was out of contention of a win., he did it and well deserved. LH himself for bringing his car from 10th to 5th, and it wasn't Mary Poppins waving her wand that put him there... FA for bringing his car in at 4th admirable. I didn't see any driver that really sucked, and I didn't see any driver that I thought was simply stunning, the battle I wanted to see was cut short.
Has there ever been a race where places 2 through whatever couldn't explain why they desereved to win? In the end only one guy takes home the cup.
Well Ron, right now I still can't get a good feel for all the numbers. I only know 4 out of the 6 but as soon as they all come clear to me I'll let you know.
I do not think Massas talent let him down at all - he did get a great start and did a good job as I said. However, I think calling Massas drive the "drive of a lifetime" is beyond optimistic. Also, saying that his pass on Lewis in the first turn was "the best pass of the entire year" crosses the boundary into silliness. In my view, the only reason to call Massas drive the best of his career and his pass the best of the entire year of any driver is if one rates Massa so low that a drag race won into the first corner is so out of character as to be considered the best that driver is capable of. I think Massa should be capable of that and more. Ron apparently thinks that's about as good as it gets for Massa LOL
Yes I think it's more of a sigh of relief that he put a good show, must be a jittery business having faith in Mr Massa. Please dont spit your dummys out..its a joke.
Although I worry every time we agree we're on the same page here. To say that this was Massa's "race of a lifetime" sells him short. I'm more worried about Kimi than Phillipe at the moment.
